screamin' pickups (.wav)

Hey everyone,

first off I'd like to introduce myself seeing as I'm new to the forum. I'm Ben, 16 years old from the UK. I'm a self taught guitarist, and have begun to dabble in with recording using my zoom G2.1u effects pedal and the Audacity music editing program.

This was recorded last night, spent a short while earlier today editing it slightly, still very new to recording so I would appreciate any feedback given!

I mostly play delta blues, rock, and anything in between.

screamin' pickups - eSnips, share anything

Thanks, Ben.

By the way, just thought I would add a few pointers: (Sorry about not using the edit function, just tried that and it deleted the whole paragraph!)

I'm by no means a musician, I've simply been dabbling in what I enjoy doing... I recently discovered the joy of recording on to my computer.... To start with I would place my skype headset next to my amp and record that way! I have since moved up in the technology scale to my USB interface on my zoom effects pedal.

Judging by what I've seen and heard so far on this forum, you all far exceed my standard, so I feel this is a great place for me to learn more and develop.

The track itself consists of 3 "layers" The first being the rhythm guitar and the drumbeat (I recorded both at the same time usingthe drum machine built into my effects pedal) Then there's the second layer, where I have a clean/slightly distorted melody playing... Then I have the bigass treble/overdriven lead guitar.

I only discovered this site today, but I am so glad that I did! The community here is great, and I look forward to becoming a part of it!

Thanks guys,

Ben.

Well first off, welcome to the YC! This really is a great forum once you get used to it. Anyway, about your song. It was alright, nothing special. I didn't care too much for your guitar tone and I didn't really like the drum beat. But overall, I would say it's alright. Pretty good, if you're just now experimenting with programs like Audacity and such. Not very many people are going to comment on this song though I don't think. It is nothing against you personally, it just tends to be this way for new members. Usually someone will sign up, and post some song of theirs immidiately. And if they are lucky they will get one or two responses. My first couples songs barely got any attention at all. When/if this happens to you, I recomend not giving up. Instead, try commenting on other people's works. If you comment on someone elses' work, they are more likely to comment on your work. It just tends to be that way, and unless you acitvely participate in this forum, I can almost gurantee that you won't get very many responses to your songs unless you are an excellent song writer. Good luck and keep playing.

Hi mate, thanks for your reply!

Some good solid feedback there, much appreciated. I will definately have to check out everyone elses work, soudns like fun! And yeah, I believe I should have paid more attention to the tone of the guitar and especially the drumbeat! I also totally understand where you're coming from, I wouldn't expect everyone to be clamouring to listen to newbie's work. Out of interest, is the preferred method of sharing music here through .MIDI tablatures? If so, I will have to learn how to read music and compose that way.

Thanks,

Ben.

MIDI's are preffered by those who are running on dial-up. I can't really give you a solid figure as to how many people on this forum actually use dial-up though. I post most of my work in MP3 form and I don't get any complaints so I am going to assume most here are running on something a bit faster. I know alot here appreciate a visible score for your music as well, some go as far as saying they won't comment at all if there is no score available. Personally though, if you're planning on writing mostly rock based music, then I wouldn't worry too much about a score.

Ahh that's totally fair enough... Just been taking a nosey at your work, some very imaginative work mate! I especially liked Industrial District and Wandering Shadows.

Thanks,

Ben.

Thanks man, I wouldn't really call my work imaginitive but glad to know you liked it. Also, it was no problem giving you a few pointers on what to do with this forum. I wish someone would have told me stuff like this when I first started. But, as long as you comment on other people's work and stay active, you should get at least a few different people commenting on your music. And if no one does, page me. I'll comment.
