Exclamation Shammerath's Reach

Hi guys,

I decided to put up a slightly older piece of mine that I quite enjoyed making. It was a challenge in creating a complex and eclectic combination of styles to produce a musical effect that properly captures the bizarre in-game environment that it represents.

Basically, I was asked to make a tribal/otherworldly sounding piece, and this is what I came up with. I hope you all enjoy it, strange as it may be!

Its pretty original and atmospheric, but maybe a bit sparse (couldn't pick out any real "hooks" - maybe you could add more instrumentation too). Liked the percussion and the background chimes and effects. I am not so sure that it sounded "tribal".... the choirs more reminded me of something like medieval monks, or maybe like an other-worldly religious order. What library did you use for the choirs?

Ah yes, I should have mentioned that it's meant to be more or less atmospheric background music, not a melodic affair. It's sort of like an unusual ambiance.

I'm glad the choirs gave you the other-wordly impression. That's what I was going for in blending them with the chaotic percussion.

The choirs aren't actually a sound library at all; they're taken from various recordings of Gregorian chants and placed in the score. It was a fun, if painstaking, process.

Thank you kindly for your comments!

I like this a lot. Does the game have a website or something, so I can see the evironment that goes along with it. It's defintately otherworldly. I'd like to hear a little more of that grunty sound that's right at the begining. That plainchant reminds me of the San Domenico album.

I'm afraid this project has since fallen through, so no luck with a website.

Glad you enjoyed it though!

Hey Marius, awesome piece as always. This piece is catchy in a way since I don't know what to expect next. I love ambient music, and I think you have done a pretty good job on this. When the choir first came in, I swore I had heard that melody before, just forgot where from. Gregorian chants seem interesting, may get some to listen to. Mind telling us which vsts you made this with? Especially those ambient sounds.
Next, this piece does feel other-worldly, mainly because of the choirs, but I don't think it sounds tribal. The choir also added a sense of "creepiness" to the piece, and I love creepy music.

To sum it all up, this is a really good piece(as usual) by you.

Thanks, Nigel

I used EWQLSO and StormDrum for most of this, and just played around with the settings extensively to get the weird sounds and heavy ambient reverb.

Thanks again for the comments!
