This only happens sometimes, but on occasion I'll save a file as a midi, ok? It sounded fine when played back IN Sibelius. Then, I go to play it as a separate midi after I've saved it, and at one point in a slow section, at the beginning of a measure that is so lovely and ppp, there's this strange little clappy sound, almost like someone dropping a cymbal in the back during a band concert It was kind of funny at first...

However, now I'm annoyed because I can't figure out why it's happening., and I can't seem to get rid of it. I tried resaving it as a midi again, same problem. I tried deleting those measures and rewriting them with newly created bars in case I accidently slipped some sort of bizarre midi text in there instructing it to make that noise. No dice.

Is there anything I might try to fix this problem? Why is it happening?

Could you post the midi file? I'm not quite sure what you are talking about.

I was thinking at first that maybe you had some instrument other than percussion on MIDI channel 10, but if it only happens occasionally, I dunno.

crud, actually I just realized it wasn't even the midi itself, but when I opened the midi in Bandstand (NI) that's where the problem begins. I've had it happen before, but no matter how much I save and change this particular piece I can't get it to go away. erg. here's an example of what bandstand is producing from the midi:

you can hear the weird thing right near the beginning of this fragment of the piece (and why it annoys me, hahaha)

fragment with problem

So maybe it's not the midi...but I don't know...it's a string quartet, so I don't think there's anything unusual in channel 10. There's something happening with the midi that weirds out bandstand. So maybe no one can help me...or...I'm so tired right now, lol, I don't know what I'm saying.

I heard it. It's the sound of a hi-hat closing.

So, you say that this doesn't happen in the MIDI? The only thing that I can think to check is to make sure that nothing is changing to channel ten unbeknowst to you.

Other than that, I think you'd have to ask someone who is experienced with Bandstand.

thanks, Calehay! Yeah...it's weird. *sigh* I'll probably try to post on their message board next. Thanks, though.

The little men in your computer, right? That live on your soundcard?

One of the percussionists got bored and fell asleep and that is the sound his head made hitting the kit.
