I don't know why when I searched I couldn't find them. I kept getting symphony no5 instead.

Well, thank-you!

BTW, for anyone who doesn notice, there's a little "I", "II" and "III" after the different files... so listen in order

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.

No problem. I love the symphonies and was surprised that it wasn't there.

Anyway, there is a reason you didn't find them before, namely, they weren't there. I see the date of this thread is December thirteenth, the videos were uploaded "two weeks ago".

It's possible, so seems rather difficult to pull off. Same person has done both, as well as symphony 2. YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Has quite a nice collection too. Some Bernstein...
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

I also SEVERELY doubt the legality of him puting the video up...

You know, I've decided that I'm not a big fan of Sibelius. I've heard No. 7 along with a few of his other pieces, and I don't really enjoy him. The Rite of Spring, now THAT is my kind of music.

Well, not everyone can appreciate all music, I guess.
To be perfectly frank, I didn't really get into Sibelius until I'd been making music for nearly 40 years. And only at the urging of an ex-professor of mine who happens to be a Sibelius freak (and a rabid avant-garde composer... go figure)

Well, I've decided to give Mr. Sibelius another try. I found Kullervo and His Sister. To me it's still no Pictures at an Exhibition, but I still like it a lot. I guess I like some of his work.

You should also try Valse Triste and The Swan of Tuonela... two wonderful, brief tone poems.

Whle I like these pieces, I don't think they satisfy me the same way as the symphonies, and particularly the final (7th), do.

XxCransworthxX...

Kullervo is not a work I know well but it's an early work by Sibelius and, I think, very idiosyncratic and perhaps not the best place to start.

The Swan of Tuenela, and the rest of the Lemminkäinen Suite, as Qccowboy said, is worth listening to; the layered string textures in the Swan are beautiful. Obviously Finlandia is worth a listen though this isn't his most subtle of works. En Saga is a fantastic Tone Poem. Pohjola's Daughter is great and a piece which becomes 10 times better when you look closely at how the structure fits the piece's programme (sometime when you study a piece closely it puts you off it for years; but with this piece, moreso than any other I've studied in detail, it really enhances the listening). Tapiola is a masterpiece; there's no other word. Listen to that with the volume up high!!

And the Symphonies (which I know of in less detail). If you're new to Sibelius 4 and 7 probably aren't the best ones to start with. You can't go far wrong with his 5th.

EDIT: Before I forget, get a copy of the Violin Concerto as well.

Actually, if you want to get to know Sibelius, you could do a lot worse than buying this set:

Amazon.co.uk: Sibelius - Complete Symphonies: Music: Jean Sibelius,Philharmonia Orchestra,Boris Belkin,Elisabeth Söderström
