Oh, and BTW, you CAN do a lot of those things that you said you couldn't do in Notepad. The pedal is in the articulation menu, the same menu where you found the dynamics. You can add a "roll" by selecting the glissando tool and clicking and dragging the glissando next to the desired chord.

Also, I couldn't pin down a main theme, or a melody. That's why I thought it was more like an etude.
MORE like an etude? Why? Did he say something else?

I figured out the roll!
pedal I haven't, but since you mentioned that, I guarantee I will before the next update (which will be tomorrow probably because I've been working on this allday and it is almost midnight for me and I need some sleep)

Ok Ok Ok!!!
Here is the latest update and most likely final thing. I decided not to make it into a sonata but I did add to it. I figured out the pedal although it sometimes blurs a few a couple notes together that it shouldn't but oh well. I also corrected a major mistake I made. The end section was going twice as fast as it is supposed to go.
Ok so here it is!

Enjoy!

Ok, so I like this piece much better with your added material and extra effects. The ending however is simply not doing it for me. It's very pretty and effective in it's own right, but you have such beautiful melodic things going on in the beginning, and I just want to hear it in the end, too. It's very accompanimental, and sounds like there's something missing. It would be really cool to layer a melodic line on top in parallel octaves or something. I don't know what it needs, but I'm just suggesting not to close the lid on this one yet. It's come extremely far from the first time I heard it, and you should be proud of yourself!

I could still try to bring the beginning out in the end, perhaps stronger accents on the melody would solve the problem of something missing. I noticed that I can hear the melody more clearly when I play the piece on the piano than when I listen to it on the computer.

sigh... I think I'm going to leave it as is now. I'd rather move on to new inspiration, but I'm glad I changed it some after I thought I had finished it. It was a really good composing learning experiance.

Thanks especially to nightengale for all the good advice and encouragement to take it a step farther!
