Somethin for the strings

wasn't sure where to put this, but this might be right. <_<

Anyway, i the music i hear in my head is an orchestra, so i have been trying to figure out how to write orchestra stuff.

It is kind of like seeing a magnificent oil-painting and only being able to make stick-figures... maybe with some hair.

Working title was Dark Guardian... not sure if I am happy with this though.

forgive me, midi:

Overall, I thought it was cool. I can picture a kind of dark sorcerer/magician figure conjuring up a spell or something.

There are parts of it that sound pretty dark and "evil," but there are others (where it transitions into a major key, for instance) where it doesn't really convey the "dark" feeling you seem to be going for. While the contrast is good, a more sinister sound might make more sense.

Also, from around 1:50 to 2:00 it sounded a bit odd (the harmonies don't seem to have much direction, and the melody is rather disjointed in a similar manner), although it might just be the MIDI playback causing that.

Really not bad. Have you written for strings before?

I thought there were some really cool sounds in this piece, and liked the style.

I did think however that it needed more variety and momentum. I think it may help if you developed the harmonies more, filling in some of the gaps, as this would go a long way towards achieving this. I also think it may help if you gave some lower voices the melody a lot more, as this would give some variety, making up for the lack of timbral variety.

This is a very good start on this. Can you post a link to a MP3. I can understand what you are saying a lot better with a MP3.
