UPDATE: Space Stage 2 added!

No, I'm not being a broken record and repeating myself, I actually ended up having to write a second space stage theme because the first wasn't upbeat enough. So now there's a second one.

Enjoy!

Oooooh, yay, another!

Eh, I don't like this as much as the first one. That part I liked most was half-way through, but still, I don't think the whole thing compares to your first one. Does this guy want you not give the music a break? Upbeat, upbeat, upbeat? I think that might tend to get boring, I like the laid back feeling for contrast. My favourite parts of the first Space Stage were, by the way, one fourth the way and three-fifths the way through, and I wish you could have included material from the old one and just juiced it up.

Still a great track, by the way, I just liked the other better.

So, how is it writing this techno stuff? They asked you specifically for it, right? I think it's really cool stuff, but I know you love writing orchestral-based tracks, so I was wondering how this all lines up in the mind of Marius.

Thanks again for the response,

I don't like this one as much either *sigh*. Yes, they DO want upbeat upbeat upbeat and so it's a little hard for me because I have to over-rule my basic music instincts to produce what they like. It's an interesting challenge.

This soundtrack has been an interesting experience for me. I'm not particularly fond of the style in general, but it's been fun to flex my musical muscles in a different direction and try to keep my own personal feel going at the same time. My ideal ensemble is orchestra with elements of electronics; in the style of people like Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikicyian (sp.) who make some absolutely fascinating soundtracks.

So I guess, in the mind of Marius, Spectraball lines up as a foray into the OTHER end of the ensemble spectrum, which will give me more practise in blending this kind of stuff into my more mainstream works. We'll have to wait and hear.

Thanks for the comments

Hey Marius,

I was googling around for Spectraball on a whim. You see, it's funny, because Jonathan told me *I* was the composer for the game... he never mentioned you, or anyone else. He also wanted me to do it for free, or minimal compensation. I've also noticed that throughout the lifespan of the game, in terms of the dev's posting on sites like Gamedev.net, the scope of the project has magically become larger... it went from a PC game to an Xbox Live-distributed game, to a Steam-distributed game...

I signed up to do it because I wanted a challenge, and because I haven't scored any games lately (I mainly write music for other media.) Though I normally get paid fairly well for music licensing, I figured that hey, being the exclusive composer for a project like this might be nice. I get demo material out of it either way.

Evidently, Jonathan has not been honest with me, nor has he been honest with you. I have no interest in continuing to work on this project despite the fact that I've completed music already and spent hours more on works in progress. If you would like to continue working on it you are welcome to but I encourage you to strongly consider whether or not it is worth writing for such a developer. Feel free to drop me an IM at "zirconmusic" to talk about this further.

Just looking out for a fellow composer...

Consider me uneasy and intrigued. We'll talk more over IM. I appreciate the heads-up!

Marius, I think it would be wise to just finish up thetitle theme and move on with it. You're so close nearing completion! If the developer doesn't use your music, you still have A COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK to show. It will only do you good

Sorry for the caps.

Hey!

I'm still working on the project, but I'm waiting on the remaining levels to be designed/created before writing any music for them, so I can't really promise any updates until the rest of the staff finishes up their part.

Having said that, I expect that they'll be ready for another track soon enough, so stay tuned. Thanks for the interest!
