Strange issue in Finale

Hey, guys. The problem I'm having is with Finale 2008, but if there are those of you who are using earlier versions, perhaps you can help me as well.

Something strange has happened with my articulation tools and smartshape tools. Whenever I try to add slurs, crescendo markings and the like, instead of seeing what I'm supposed to be seeing, I'm seeing a small "p" being dragged across the screen (sometimes it's a "d"). Whenever I try to add dynamics, it automatically gives me a fortissimo marking. When I want to add accents, or staccato markings, I get a "3" over my notes by default.

I'm guessing that the program has set this to display what I'm seeing whenever I want to use these tools. Or, somehow, I managed to set them myself, but I have no idea how and I really don't know how to undo it. This has only been a recurring problem with recent projects; older ones seem to be doing this just fine. I've played around with the automatic settings, and I'm finding nothing. I don't get what's happening.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

That's funny, it sounds like your new file template has messed up the assignment of fonts...weird. I'm not entirely sure how to correct that, but I would check out their support forums in case there's something in there about it. A re-install will almost certainly fix the issue, but I'm betting there's a simple way to revert back to the default font assignment settings.

I'll take a look too, once I get home, and post more if I figure it out.

Good luck!

Marius;

I'm not sure if a re-install would work, because it seems to be individual settings on the appropriate file. But if nothing else seems to be working, then I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and do it. Thanks for your response, though!

Reload your libraries. (which won't help if you've messed up the actual libraries... you'll definitely have to reinstall)

Hey, Flint. The libraries seem to be intact; how do I reload them? I've tried the "Load Library" option, but it hasn't done much.

EDIT: Now it's not deauthorizing. Something's corrupted it. But re-installing it seemed to do the trick. Now I'm having an issue with the VST player. Every time I adjust the decibels for the instruments to the volumes I want them at, they return to their default settings whenever I want playback. Why? What's the point in adjusting the volume if it's not going to keep the settings? Do I have to unload and reload the individual VSTs to get what I want out of them?

Oy. Finale's driving me mad. I think next time, I'm using Sibelius.
