String Quartet

This a movement of a new string quartet I started last month. I don't know which movement it will be since I have yet to work on any others to go with it.

Here it is

This is still a work in progress, so any suggestions would be very helpful.

Ron

Here is a score

Hey! Nice to see you again.
I like bits and pieces of it. I really the dissonance and the texture you're creating. I have a question however, are planning on creating a motif-ish-melody? I think its crying for one. There are times where its just all sound and music and its slightly boring (Sorry!! ) But other that i really enjoyed it. A lot the rythem build ups you are using and echoing between voices is nice. Good Luck!

Rolifer, I don't know you but I've listened to several of your pieces (I recall Invasion of the Universe and a piece for 4-hands piano if I'm not mistaken) and you for sure have a really own style. Your dissonant music and the contrasts you create instead of real thematic material is really a style you've mastered. I'm not really into music like this, so I lost my interest after a while, but I can see you've a creative mind and a tallent as composer. Kudos to you!

I haven't seen a post of yours up for awhile. Are you waiting for next semester?

I know this isn't my best work as of now. The piece needs a good bit of work yet and I'm not sure what I will do with it. I just thought I'd post it in hopes of someone giving me an idea that will work.

Have fun this semester.

Steven

I think that in order to be a good composer, we have to listen to the types of music we don't like as well as those we do. I see that you do that and I think that in the long run it will help.

Thanks guys for the listen and more importantly, taking the time to comment.

Ron

This is really good! I like your handling over counterpoint, this is definitely going to be a good work for you. The style and everything is very cohesive, and this is just a midi. Very mature writing. I have a problem though with the piece harmonically about 2 minutes in, the vocabulary harmonically becomes drastically different and I just don't think fits what you stated very effectively in the first 90 seconds of the piece. If you're writing mostly dissonant intervals and textures, then all of a sudden you get these very open sonorities and what sounds like to be very tonal gestures, that can be a bit jarring and takes away from the overall cohesiveness. That just takes a little bit more effort on your part. I don't have a score so I can't say much else, happy writing.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have just started school again and things are busy right now, so I have not been quick getting back here.

In some of my pieces lately, I have been going with large contrasts between an A and B parts. Maybe I am taking the contrasts too far. Regardless, thank you for taking the time to comment on this.

Vince

I have added the score in the opening thread. A lot of the markings are for trying to get a more humanized playback and would not be there for the final score.

I am still curious as to what you think of Trojan Asteroids.

Thanks guys for taking the time to comment.
