String Quartet Nš 1, in A Major

God I HATE MIDI!!

Anyway... I'll post mp3's in Finale quality sound as soon as I can.

String Quartet Nš1, in A Major, Opus 5 (Copyright: 2006, by M. Bulteau, a.k.a. Berlioz)

IMPORTANT!!!
It's not a conventional quartet, instead of being for 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello; it's for 1 violin, 1 viola, 1 cello and 1 doublebass.

Composed with Finale 2006.

Took about 4 or 5 days of actually working time (distributed by a month).

Divided into three movements:

1st- The main theme of the first movement was what inspired the creation of the quartet. It's a theme I associate to a girl I know, to be played on a cello (Because I always associated the cello to her... Weird, huh? Besides, girls playing the cello are sexy... ).
2nd- This was the movement I made in last place. Nothing much to say, except that the MIDIS SUCK!!!
3rd- This one was the funniest to compose, with a celtic theme in the middle...

The main difficulty was to find enough "melodies" to counterpoint the main ones, but I think it went fairly well...

It's my first quartet. I believe it sounds from classical to sometimes folkloric...

Tell me what you think!

MAJOR UPDATE!!!

The MP3's are here!! ^^

ANOTHER UPDATE!!

There's a third movement HERE, the former third has become the fourth. The mp3 link above has been reorganized accordingly.

Scores:

1st Movement
2nd Movement
3rd Movement
4th Movement

lovely piece! , very conservative and has a country-like style that floats very smoothly under the strings of music theory.

I'm listening to the 1st mov. and enjoying it muchly.
I can't decide which part of it I like best... and I've listened to it several times through the "darker" part from about 2:27 to 3:06 (?) was kind of cool and a nice contrast

The first movement has a conservative first theme, bold but relaxed. However, modulation and a stronger, more constrasting development would help. Hints of Berlioz and Schubert are sweet. The lyrical second movement is close to flawless. I see a horse at rest, its owner singing a beauteous, flowing melody, then straddling the horse and galloping off, as the second motif says. The lively third movement dances with colour, the dorian flair in the middle mixing a Celtic root admist the spendour. Overall, I enjoyed your work pleasantly, and once you get rid of the terrible .mid, I shall download again.

Yeah, I know about the MIDI's...
I'll try to post mp3's with Finale quality (better than MIDI, but not quite real-sounding) later.

Thanks to you all for your comments until now! ^^

A score would be quite useful, though.

I have a certain reluctance on posting scores, for now...

I will if it is thoroughly necessary, which I don't think it is the case, now...

Hey, great piece of work, certainly deserves a place in the major work area. Lovely tunes, beautiful harmony coordinations. Wow, well done.

Ya, it SHOULD sound WAYY better in MP3.

the last movement is great fun and for once the MIDI actually captures the spirit of it. The other two movements though I really can't listen to until the .mp3's come along ( I should say as well that my MIDI soundset is particularly bad as only the motherboard soundcard and not my main one has GM support)
