String Quartet

A string quartet composed for Composition II. I wanted to make it really exciting so there is some dissonance. Mostly in variation of a g minor scale.

note: the notation is somewhat odd, mainly because I was notating the beat, i'm currently fixing the meter to make it more easily readable.

really nice piece. i enjoyed it very much. well balanced, well structured. very imaginative and thick. great job!

it's a very interesting piece. My only question would be: Where is the melody? Im still listening to it now, and yes, I can hear this melody flying all over the stave, but when it comes to a section where the texture is thick, I struggle to hear what i should be listening to. Even in thick sections, you need to make sure that there is a leader in between all the contrapuntal harmonies and melodies, one that sticks out from the rest...even if it that leader role swaps between instruments...

I think the best way to do that, is dynamics....contrast them...and make sure they stick out...and are IN the piece haha. I just realised that there are no or hardly any dynamics throughout. Would make the piece even more exciting than it already is.

I love this type of harmony, tis cool.

Oh wait, one more thing: Piece for String Quartet...When I see a title that says "String Quartet"...i instantly think 4 movements....Unless you are making more movements, 'Piece for String Quartet' would be a better title.

Yeah, it's the mp3 recording, it's kinda of bad sampling. The melody is definitely distinct when the dynamics are actually used. Thanks for you comments =D.

Not particularly my style, but I did enjoy it. (seemed a little to frantic for my tastes,,, but don't mind me )

Yeah, with out dynamics in the thicker sections I had a hard time also. When I could tell what I was supposed to hear i say: interesting... lol.

This sounds very much like Bartok, congratulations. I hope that's an apt comparison, if not, go listen to the Bartok string quartets immediately! Especially Nos. 4-5. Also, could you post a PDF so I could make further comments? I don't have finale.

I really don't hear too much Bartok in it, but I love the piece nonetheless. There's a great sense of motion throughout, and the dissonance in it makes it a more interesting piece, imo. Nice.
