We can work with that theme. I think we should write for indoor percussion ensemble. For those not familiar with this genre, think of marching band and drum corps. Indoor percussion ensembles feature a full batterie (drumline) and front ensemble (pit). The drumline actually marches, performing more intricate forms and motions then they normally would in marching band or drum corps, since here they are the main visual focus in place of marching wind instrumentalists.
Indoor percussion ensemble - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here is an example of indoor percussion, sometimes called percussion theatre:
YouTube - Music City Mystique last rehearsal run before WGI Finals 07 (I know they're practicing outdoors
YouTube - Music City Mystique '06 (Actually indoors, this one is more interesting in my opinion)
Those are two shows by Music City Mysitique (Indoor Percussion Ensemble)

Even if you're familiar with the genre, listen to those, get this stuff in your mind. Is this what we want to do? This would add a snare line, tenor line, 5 tuned bass drums, and 4 to 6 tuned marching cymbals. We could come up with something really cool if we put our minds to it. Everybody up to it?

Alright, how many people? If enough, we'll start a thread for this.

P.S. I'm good in batterie, too, don't worry.

I love indoor percussion ensembles! Count me in! And can we work with what I already have started?

If you want to join and do it, we can help. You really don't have to know that much, as long as you can write okay music, I think you should be fine.

So far, we have a proposed indoor percussion ensemble
  • Enigmus (myself)
  • Spectrums
  • pricewalden
  • Virtualshock
  • IHoldThePenHaHa
Virtualshock, are you interested? <edit="he is"> Anyone else? I suppose there's plenty of room. Knowledge in percussion is advised and encouraged, but not necessary.

<furthur edit="Maybe this is enough... we have 5 participants unless somebody else is really interested. Can everybody listed here participate actively for the duration of this project? Reason I ask, our YC String Quartet has been on hold for a month because a member hasn't been online since, well, a month ago... and no explanation/warning was provided. If everybody gives the "go", we'll start a thread.">

I've been on drumline for 4 years but I think I'd like to know what we're writing exactly before I commit myself to it. I.E., arranging? original composition? full show/one piece? Jigga what now.

Original piece. Probably not a full show, but if the first piece goes off without a hitch, we could consider having three/four movements.

I need answers from all of you others that you can contribute actively (I.E. not sporadically) to this.

Would it be too much to all interested participants to compose their own motif/melody for us to use as a main theme? We all could decide together on which would be the best to work with. It can be a rhythmic figure, or a melodic figure. Or maybe we could combine the two. We can begin with this (if it's okay with everyone) as soon as we get the thread started.

Remember, this may go on for months.

<edit> Thread started, post in there if you're sure you can participate. -> YC Collaborative Indoor Percussion Ensemble
