Unfortunately, I can't seem to edit my original post to add the subsequant movement, so I'll add it to the end here (maybe someone can help figure out how to edit a post in this forum?)

thus, the 3rd movement of the Sinfonia Canadensis "A Canadian Symphony" (Symphony no2)

particular difficulties: I HATE writing fast music! truly rapid music is probably one of the most diffiuclt things to achieve.

techniques: well, same as most of my music.
this movement has some added elements - there are five themes (or rather, fragments of themes) I incorporated into this scherzo.
for each of the Maritime provinces I included a fragment of a "national" or folkloric themem so
- Island Hymn for Prince Edward Island (the jaunty 12/8 theme)
- Farewell to Nova Scotia, used as a bouncy little 4-part chorale in the horns
- Ode to Newfoundland, which gets the "lyrical" and modulatory treatment
- Ave Maris Stella for New Brunswick, a gregorian chant which acts as a sort of choral-fantasy for the grand finale
- and tiny fragments of Oh Canada tossed in for good measure (just in case someone missed the "Canadian" symphony title )

this is a very brief movement, a tad over 3 minutes.

and now, on to the final two movements... back to work.

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.

Someone tell me I need glasses - but I can't find a link to the music. If the music is removed, then why is this still in "Major Works"?

After the accolades from other composers, I was looking forward to listening to this.

Same here... I can't see the link to it... Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I think Qccowboy has removed the links now, as he is obliged to do so on account of conditions imposed on him by his publisher, or something. Your best bet might be to PM him.

I will temporarily repost the first three movements.

Yes, thanks for putting the links back, even if it's only to be temporarily.

I assume you are still not able to post any scores? Real shame if not...I'd love to see how a lot of the effects you create in these pieces are brought about.

I also read your message in your Christmas piece thread about it (the symphony, that is) possibly being up for performance consideration by the Montreal Symphony. I do hope they select it - having MP3 renditions by GPO is OK, but nothing compared to owning a recording played by an actual orchestra. So best of luck with that.
