A Tale Of Two Kingdoms (computer game music), Epic...

Okie.

I don't think I've shared this with you

From a computer game (adventure) to be found at A Tale of Two Kingdoms

Take a listen:
www.nikolas-sideris.com/stuff/atotk.mp3

I find it quite fascinating and fantastic I have to admit, one of my favourite tracks! But then again it's my work so I can't really comment on it (but just did. hihi)

I've listened to this one before. I find it rather good.

What's the story insofar as structure and/or form? Is it more or less a linear progression dictated by storyline or on-screen action, or is there something lurking beneath the surface? I'm awful at discerning structures...

Some nice vocal effects in there. I'm going to assume you don't own your own chorus, so was this the work of EWQL Symphonic Choirs, by any chance?

Thanks mike,

The choirs are the EWQL SC of course. I don't have locked in my bassement any choir members The orchestra is also EWAL Gold (not xp pro, btw).

The form was dictated by the intro movie more or less but I tried my best to give it a normal form...

Mainly the whole idea is the bass notes in the tubas, trombones and bass strings, in the "middle section" (right after the percussion start hitting), which is a 12 note series actually . Based on that I made normal 3 note chords, minor and major ones. And on that I based the begining and ending...

As far as structure though, I'd say that it is following the intro video (Which btw is also online if one searches a little Just that I feel that the music is a tad too much for the video...) That's all

Cheers, Mike

ah, Nikolas, Nikolas, Nikolas....

I hate to do this to you, but....

I actually liked this

For game music (I'm not a great fan of most game music) it was wonderfully rich and dense.

I particularly liked the dense harmony and the polychords.

There's something about game music I find unsatisfying, generally. It's as though it's cinematic, yet "missing something". I understand that it's probably an inherant requirement of the genre. Happily, I didn't get that impression from your piece.

If you were to make me happy (and of course, that SHOULD be your prime goal in life ) I'd love to hear something of yours that is halfway between this and your string quartet.

haha!

Glad I made you like at last a track of mine yay! Succes! yay!

Okie...

Let's see now...

Game music is indeed treated (by composers and audience alike), at a more superfecial level than film music, which itself is treated as inferior to concert music. :-/ It just happens...

I treat game music with the utter respect, since I did grow with compure games at my side... I do try and give the best of me there in that genre (plus I would love to make a HUGE career out of computer games music, (mentioning HUGE, since I'm already making money out of it)).

But I'll try to give in to your request and attempt something a bit more... difficult maybe, as a game music... I'll make a new thread...

I've really gotten into some game music, actually.
not to listen to it alone without the context of teh game, but been amazed at how beautiful some of it is.

For example, in World of Warcraft, there's an area called Teldrassil, and the music is absolutely heart wrenchingly beautiful. there was this really emotional quest there, to save the soul of a forest elemental creature.. and at the end, when you do, the music breaks out with the chorus and the full orchestra, and I was sitting there sobbing...

And when I played Final Fantasy XI, I remember coming "home" after a few weeks of questing in distant areas, and just hearing the music of my "home town" was enough to bring tears to my eyes.

So not all game music is heart pounding action music. Which is nice. I like FEELING something when I play a game. And any game that can make me cry has a darned good soundtrack.

Despite your music normally filling me with terror and bewilderment (), I found this incredibly listenable, and I really really enjoyed it. I then downloaded the trailer, and found that the music fitted the story beautifully. I am now going to check out this other post of yours

This is awesome, some of the best game music I've heard on this site. My sister (who knows nothing of music) thought I was listening to my Lord of the Rings soundtrack, so that has got to count for something (although you may not like that...)
One thing I didn't like was the high pitched percussion that starts around 1:50. It is a nice effect, but it gets rather annoying for the ears after a while!
But anyway, this is awesome, I can't wait to hear more!
