Thale Cres Suite

To the request of QCcowboy:

Here is the 4 tracks I wrote for a game called "Thale Cres" (the alpha demo really, not the full game). And to get a better review, for those who please themselves with such issues, the scores are also uploaded

www.nikolas-sideris.com/thalecres/day1.mp3

www.nikolas-sideris.com/thalecres/night1.mp3

www.nikolas-sideris.com/thalecres/battle1.pdf
www.nikolas-sideris.com/thalecres/night2.mp3

I do think that I did a great job with this game music, but I do also think that the music was a tad too much and should've been simpler...

either way, it's here at your disposal

Enjoy!

I FEWKING LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's absolutely amazing!

THIS was used in a game????

believe it or not, I even really like the much less tonal second movement (Night 1). It reminds me a little bit of the score to the movie Fantastic Voyage (those bass clarinet arpeggios)

and I like the horn gliss in the Battle music

I'm curious, are you eastern European?
Night 2 has a bit of a Russian colour to it. As though an echo of Prokoviev or Schostakowitch without actually SOUNDING like them.

Well, Nik, my friend, you are rapidly becoming my favourite new composer!

There is NO way the music should have been simpler.
This actually makes a wonderful concert suite! All it needs is a loud rambunctious final movement to keep the audience on its toes!

I must agree wholeheartedly with Michel's opening statement

This is way beyond anything I have ever heard that's been composed for a game. Has the game been released? If not, will it be?

Your new loyal fan, Mark

Hey Nikolas!

I've already shared my thoughts with you about this soundtrack, but for the benefit of this thread, I find it to be very good music.

It's not really beyond the standards of professional game music these days, but the important thing is that it DOES sound up to par with the professional stuff in bigger-budget games which is a very complimentary thing indeed.

Great moods, nice orchestration, clever harmonies and good production (minus some brief clipping issues in the battle track).

Good luck with your work and thanks for sharing

QC, thank you my friend. Glad you like it. It does feel a little bit pastiche, but I don't really mind, as I do feel it's mine and it is coherent throughout (using the same theme at places...).

I am from Greece which is pretty much a crossroads for everything from arabic countries (who call us unan), balcan countries, mediteranian countries and a tad europe. Go figure... :p

Mark, thanks again mate. There is an alpha demo for the game, a simple map, which can be downloaded (for free) over at the site at Thale Cres .

Marius, I know your feelings about the game and the music. The clipping is a new thing, a very hasty compressor and EQ did this while making it into an mp3. I shuold've been more careful (I just did that for YC forums, the original file does not have any clipping).
Thanks for posting.

As expected from Nikolas-sensei, this is impeccable. All four tracks kick serious bu*t and I believe that the game is what should accompany the music and not the other way round. Of course, I prefer your ->other<- works...but...

Thanks manos...

Thing is that game music (and film music) should not overshadow the medium, in which case here this does happen. That's why I mentioned that the music should've been simpler, not in musical terms, but in collaborative terms.

Either way thanks for liking it...

I really don't follow your post, sorry mate.

If you check, all the scores are there and are playable by any orchestra. nothing is unplayable! Furthermore I have works played by performers and orchestras (some of them posted here as well).

What are you talking about really?

Sequencers are 1 thing, notation programs are another. I know how to use both.

I'm really buffled to what you say, since the scores are up there as well...

Either way thanks for the nice words.
