is there a notation program with a piano roll?

hi all!
i currently use Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 and sometimes Cubase SX 3 to write my music. only prob is they suck for printing sheet music only good for producing.

i understand sibelius is good for notation but it has no PIANO ROLL which is a must have!

is there any notation software good for printing sheet music which also has a piano roll? i don't care about soundbank or sound quality since it's coming out of my printer i just love the piano roll.

No, there isn't as far as I know. I doubt NOTION has it, and Finale and sibelius don't.

what you could, easily do, is play in Sonar, use the piano roll, and export midi files to put them in your notation program and pick it up from there.

But imo, it's a bit of a lenghty process and you might very well start learning the notation program, and get over the piano roll. For scores that is, right? Nothing against the piano roll, I use it myself.

I like Reaper's piano roll. Plus, you don't even have to buy it!

Yes Reaper is a pretty neat program (especially for the cost). I know it has a piano roll, but does it have a staff-view?

Anvil Studio has staff editor and piano-roll editor, too. The program itself is free, you can buy accessories to get more features (printing, multiple track view, etc.). But since it saves in midi format, you can import its files into other programs (eg. Finale Notepad 2008).

Want both Piano Roll and sheet music print feature?

Yes, I'll second that about Anvil. I printed a short passage for which I finally got the timing right (composing in Piano Roll), and was interested to see that the little melody that I thought was so simple looked complex in full notation. My wife and I have several printers and for this we used an HP Color LaserJet 2600n. The color was irrelevant. We had a problem at first getting it to fit on a page--it wanted to print very large, and oriented the wrong way. But finally we got the size smaller and the format right (the long dimension of the paper, or "landscape" mode of the printer), and it looked pretty good. I'm looking forward to printing out more, but first I've got to get the timing right, which is proving to be difficult!

Musicator has a piano roll. However the recent versions of Musicator are not as good as the old version 3 or 4.
