Toy Time

Hey everybody,

I thought id upload a snippet of a composition I did for a short film.

The track is entitled "Toy Time"- its a playful little composition.

I loved that melody at the ending... you thinking of expanding on it?

Reminds me of riding with my wooden rocking horse on the bare hardwood floors of my Grandmothers home in the country. Beautiful.

BTW, what software did you use to write the clip? Or is it a multi-track recording or live orchestra? Thanks!

Wouldn't it sound better if it was just piano in the high register instead of toy piano?

jawoodruff- thank you, that means a lot. Sadly just after i composed this and bounced it my external HD crashed and had to be completely wiped so i was never able to get my logic session back to expand on it :/

Frist Clemings - Thats exactly what i was going for. And these are vienna samples but im glad you asked that means im doing something right with them.

jujimufu- That higher register isnt a toy piano its actually a celesta.

Too short, I think. The material is very good and has a lot of room for development!

Another nice little piece you've got here. I like the childish/innocent feeling that the orchestration presents.

Since your hard drive crashed and you lost your files, I won't specifically comment on this piece, but rather give you a word of advice for the future (especially since you're using such a stellar library). In the future, you might want to play with envelopes to give your long notes direction. Rarely, if ever, do instrumentalists (other than pianists and percussionists), maintain the same volume throughout the course of a note. Sometimes they'll get louder or softer throughout the course of the note to give it direction and shape. Tweaking the envelopes (volume and expression [depending on the patch]) will greatly increase the overall realism of your piece.
