Holy crap.. those where some scary months. After the stressful crunch of fininshing up Independent Warrior in time i was so drained of inspiration that i haven't touched anything music-making-related since then. Until now.
Last night, i dusted off my keyboard and started the way i always start when i dont have any particular song in mind. The philosophy of "Every song begins with one note". So i put down one note and developed it further until i got something i liked. So far i like it, still needs editing and tweaking, and last but not least, it needs to be more developed and longer as it is kindof short at the moment.

Anyways, i'll post the WIP right here for you to listen and comment to

A_different_time02.mp3 (2.05 MB)

Feel obligated to review (j/k)

Cheers, everybody.

Wow that is really cool. It would be some great soundtrack music for an epic movie. It kinda reminds me of The Gladiator in a sense. It also kinda reminds me of Enya (you can decide for yourself whether that is a good thing). You will want someone other than me to review the technical aspect of the piece. However, I can give you 2 thumbs up for your efforts so far.

I agree - the combination of low percussion and pizzicato strings is very Enya-ish. And the arco strings and horns mix generates that epic feeling. My only complaint is that the percussion is too prominent. The melody doesn't come out enough, and so you lose the sonority of the strings with the horns for the most part. In fact the only spot I felt the melody/harmony was even CLOSE to strong enough was when you bring in the VI harmony a little after a third of the way through.

I have always been into your music, i dont see how u do it. Im really hoping to get the software u use sometime, to get some real sounds in there. I've pirated the Gold Edition program just to try it out until i get it for myself, but of course it didn't come with the sounds. So im gonna purchase it soon, keep the music goin, i love it.

I agree with Ravel - it has a great movie feeling over it. You can make like three versions of this song - this one - ongoing, a bit abstract, background-feeling; a second with more emotionally evolved strings, less drums; and a third, with powerful hunting drums and might strings! I guess I got exited

I haven't had much time lately to do much, so no Update yet. But soon!

Ravel: Thanks, mate. Since my favorite composer of all time is Hans Zimmer i take your comments as a big compliment. Thanks

Christopher: I believe you are right. And i agree. Usually, i finalize the mixing later on in the project to make it sound as good as possible in order to bring out the best of every frequency.

Kyle Infante: Thanks I usually visualize everything in my head while making a song. So i can hear exactly in my head what i want, and i then try to make it as close to my ideas as possible. If i dont have any specific idea to start with, i basically start somewhere and let it come to me in time. However, i should buy some basic theory books soon as i believe it would help in order to do certain things. As for now, i am self-taught.

Odenkraft: Heja Sverige Good idea with using the melody as a form of reoccuring theme. I might steal that idea, if you dont mind

Cheers eveybody!
