A very enjoyable and well orchestrated piece. I think it would be a mistake to remove the pauses as they add character and impact. Silence can be as effective as sound in a piece and because you have used several pauses, I think they work quite well. Of course, if you feel you are not happy with the pauses, then change them - a composer's prerogative.

thanks for the comment euler, ya i think ill leave the pauses in, they were intentional in the fact that it creates tension until its resolved, or at least in my mind lol

You have a never ending evolving mind; as do I. What I mean is that I also find it hard to write transitions b/c my mind wants to immediately go to something new and forget about how I'm going to navigate the listener's ear. This is a great and very complex work! Tons of wonderful episodes of musical thought to enjoy and experience! Also very different styles and instrumentation combinations!
Wonderful!

Michael

im writing this as i listen along with ur piece so...
beginning is excellent, grabbed attention really fast, the two beat of drum was a good hint and then flute ...sudden crecendo, change of theme--its sort of like a chase. great choice of instruments. maybe a more unique melody would make this piece a great adventure
toward the end i like the contrast between the woodwinds and the sudden string....slowing down...end...i enjoyed it mr.thatguy

just fantastic. the program you use doesnt do your music justice i find.

given to a conductor with a real orchestra, im sure that he could turn many pieces people have posted onto this site, into incredible masterpieces. I find that when i compose, i end of trying to make the program sound nice, rather than giving the actual instruments thought.

do you just compose using the program and a knowledge of chords and such, or do you use a piano to aid you?

unfortunatly i dont have a keyboard with midi input, so i have to use my wee-lit-le mind when it comes to writing, i wish i did, im sure i could compose much faster. but, i think that the more you write from your head instead of what sounds good hammering out keys on the piano ( i write on paper before notating on the computer) the better you get at understanding various elements of music. i always start with some sort of motif like phrase, then soon after i start mapping out what i want to do with the rest. thanks for your time and input on my piece!

Just got done listening to your piece, really powerful piece, i loved it. The dark aspect to it was great, it was somewhat of a twisted demented dark, like a sociopathic dark, hehehe. Reminded me of something that belongs in a tim burton movie.

Post Early romantic style ouverture!

This early Schubertian style ouverture is very con(Vince)ing!

Dramatic opening, then follows a misterious and beautiful, dark section with dark strings... the expressive bassoons add to the romantic tension. The transition between the low strings and the woodwinds has been carefully orchestrated, leading to the Allegro theme, in true early romantic style!

Beethovian handling of the timpani!
Overall, very effective contrasting elements that keep the listener's attention awake.

Fred
