untitled 16

hi there

this is my first post on this site, and i must say i wish i found out about it much much earlier, but eh

the name is vince and this is the most recent piece i have written. any feedback is welcome and being harsh will not hurt my feelings lol. im eager to comment on all of your works as well cuz im a comment whore, but thats besides the point.

on things ive written in the past ive either imagined something or taken a scene out of my life and developed music to it, but with this piece it seems as though i had growing feelings from many different times in my life, therefore no title. no score yet but coming soon even though its a complete disaster lol

hopefully this link works as im not computer savvy

Hello, welcome to YC as I'm sure someone else will say hello as well. Listening to it as I comment so if something is confusing just ask later. its a nice intro, you use the orchestra well, i like how you work your dynamics to change the tambre of the entire orchestra, sudden pause after the timpani hit is kind of odd, makes the piece sound disjunct.... build up.... fast section is nice, slow part after fast part is kind of like the disjunct timpani pause thingy, maybe you might want to try to work into that section a little better. slow part is nice, again this piece reminds me of another, but then again don't all of them, the transisiton was better with the dim. chord, still kind of abrupt. obviously there is a good knowledge of theory, if not kudos to natural ability, main theme back nice recap. nice piccardi (sp i know) at the end. Good work kept me interested the whole way through. Like i said earlier the only things that threw me off were the "disjunct transitions, and its not like its terribly bad, its more like almost being perfectly in tune but not quite and its slight nerve racking." anyways hope to see more stuff.

I agree with Oboe. I also agree with JK in a a couple of the transistions.
You seem to have a fine grasp of using dynamics and the percussion is not overpowering. BTW It loops without a hitch. lol

And Welcome to YC. As for commenting alot... We need that!! Looks like you've already started.

Yes it is very common as is Accel and retarding. When changing tempos, some tempos fit better with others.

I really like this piece, and not just because it is well-written, but also because I loved the dark emotions it evokes: pain and urgency. You have a real talent for slowly building up from the low strings to some interesting climaxes. Also, I applaud your skillful use of the woodwinds both as solo instruments and as a group. My only even slightly negative comment is that some of the transitions, as the other responses have pointed out, punctuate sharply, especially in the opening. But really that just gives the piece a distinctive sound. I would keep everything more or less the way it is. I imagine this would be beautiful performed live. Good job.
