Untitled Marching Band Movement

So, I started another field show, as I have nothing else I really want to do to my other one, and I'm stuck. I'm not sure what to write in it next... here is a mus and midi.

MIDI LISTENERS:
Around :46, it cuts out a lot of instruments for some odd reason. It does it while I'm in Finale 2003 too. Not sure why...

Percussion criticism wanted.

When I listened to this, I was a bit surprised that it was supposed to be a field show- if you were to take that slower, it would sound like some sort of imperial march.

Anyway, onto the point. I think you could now use a section that brings the listener away from that regal and uptight feel that you have created. I'm not sure if necessarily an adagio or serene section would work for a field show, but something a little less uptight, just as I said before.

I felt a bit of Final Fantasy IX in that.

The main problem I see with this is there's very little movement from the 'i' chord. It feels a little 'drony'. Thats not to say it's bad, it could just probably use a bit more harmonic movement.

That sounds right. It doesn't seem to leave one or two chords very often, and doesn't give much interest.

That helped me name it! Thanks!

Slower section is next (er... second movement I mean.. maybe I call it, "The Princess".)

Gah, this song is starting to remind me of (Robert?) Jager's Third Suite! GAH!

I finished the movement (with percussion! Which I would like some opinions on...)

I'm getting this asian feel and I like it! Haha!
I like the strong perc. pulse. A good start.
But I agree with Jamie, needs more harmonic movement.

My only criticism, aside from what has been said, is that it feels a little "blocky." You move from one idea to the next, and the transitions are well executed, but the final effect is a linear sequence of unrelated parts. Try repeating and developing your ideas more. Music is very repetitious; the trick is to repeat yourself enough to give your piece a sense of wholeness, but not so much that you bore the listener.
