Video game music....

I am sorry to say folks.. well not sorry, but...
MIDI programs only make all the music here sound like it belongs in an old NES game... I know that all of these compostions are great works of art... and I'm sure that many of you have noticed this before...
but simply put... MIDI dimeans the grandness of your compositions
I know that there probably is little to no other ways of sharing your music with the others.
I'm feeling tenative about posting anything of my own on here,
after seeing how other peoples hard worked on compositions were turned into bleeping and blooping dungeon music from the first Final Fantasy game.

I don't do MIDI...I don't really do any sort of 'computer simulations' of my music. Doesn't quite work that way for what I do.

However, others here are quite proficient with the sampler/sequencer/whatever, creating quite convincing pieces. (I know I've been fooled a couple times). There ARE ways to get decent sounding music without hiring an orchestra and booking studio time.

A lot of people here have no other choice. Real performers are not available but to a select few of us, and GPO and the like are all very expensive.

Surely you don't advocate people going far, far out of their way to please you.

But its only a quality of an individual sound. Even if they sound bad on your midi soundboard, they still have all the chords and stuff of the original piece. People are quality freaks these days, I wish I coulda composed in the Amiga Mod days sometimes..

On another note, FF1 music is nothing but a single lead sound, so really, the comparison is pretty biased.

well obviously Im not saying I want you to go out of your way to please me...
and I recognize that many of you do have links to MP3s of your pieces
but I am one of the quality freaks and I unno... MIDI doesn't do it for me
and I suppose I could buy the equipment to record my guitar compositions
onto a computer and post them here...
but sincerely the MIDI bugs the hell out of me
I know that these are great musical works
I'm not critisizing the music in any way

You are criticizing the only way many people have of getting their music out. Leave everyone to their own devices.

Hm. From now on, I expect all music you post to be recordings made of the Berlin Philharmonic. Anything else is just clearly inferior and only degrades your music further. Music recorded by anyone other than the Berlin Philharmonic just doesn't do it for me. Anything less just bugs the hell out of me.

... okay then...
when I feel the need to express myself Ill do so
and if you people are to stuck up to recognize my opinion...
and I'm not writing symphony stuff.. so why would I hire a symphony to play it?
I'm a rock musician, and Im looking for some way to get helpful critisism on my pieces
but stuck up pigs like you turn me away from good sites like this one

Then get a band to record your stuff. It's profoundly easier for you, as a rock musician, to get anything above a MIDI recording. For us that don't write crap, er, rock, it can be extremely hard in some cases to do anything but MIDI. Learn to love it, or leave.

Glad I could be of service.

holy shit.. you've got a cello bow stuck to far up your ass man
you think that the music I write is shit?
go screw yourself.
have you ever listened to the moving and inspirational music of John Lennon?
or the profound lyrics in Carouselambra?
the overlayered intruments and complex harmonies of the ELO?
you're clearly too closed minded to realize that music is music
and that stretches out beyond the orchestra.
the music I write is more than jsut the basic I-IV-V-I progression
its not just 4/4 time and basic rudamental playing
its not thrashing loud noise pollution
since you clearly have no respect for anyone but yourself
I have no respect for you either
obviously you wont care about that.. because your a stuck up pig with no values outside those shared by you and your highbrow composing friends
music is something that coes from the soul
god if you want to use that word
the heart, its about expression
and so fuck you
im expressing myself
if you got a problem with it then go crawl up your ass and think the better of yourself
