Violin/Piano Duet: A tone poem

This was done in Sibelius, then transfered to GPO sample via midi. Total time to compose was about four hours, and was set to the text of D.H. Lawrence's "Piano." The funny thing about this is that it was composed for male voices and soprano solo as a piece for a small chorus; however, I liked the sound of the piano/violin better. As a result, there is no score at the moment which I can give you; I haven't finished arranging the piece yet. If you would like to see the score to which this was originally set, it's the same thing, just without the piano reduction.

There is something comforting about this music. I found myself letting go of pedagogy and rules and expectations and just letting it wash warm over me.

For lack of a better term, this is somewhat "American" sounding music to me...lightly flavoured with Copeland, perhaps.

I thought it was odd that the violin solo didn't enter sooner, and at first I found myself wishing the piano part were more "pianistic," i.e. less homophonic. I didn't always agree with your voice leading and harmonic progressions...some of them seemed slightly crude to me. But more important than all that is the fact that this little piece took me out of my world for a moment, and led me somewhere else, someplace peaceful and beautiful. Thanks for that.

I liked the flow of this song. If only it had modulated to some other key, it could have worked even more due to the fact that you limited your register and key which limited the piece to have some variety. But ofcourse this might not be finished yet and also you composed it in only four hours. So when you start working again on this you might consider transposing to a minor key maybe at where this version ended. Also, some sections of the piano introduction was too chordal, consider using passing tones instead of repeated 8th note triads ?

But i think its a good start and could be a lovely little song

Hope this helps !

I liked it alot but, yes a key change would be nice. I especially liked your fermata placement. They were perfect for the spots you placed them in.
Good Luck with it.

There's something special about the violin's entrance and the ending, it gave me goosebumps, only thing I'd dare suggest is for the violin to keep going just a little bit at the end.

The piece has been updated with it having been arranged for piano and violin, instead of just a piano realization of voices. The music is all updated, and I'm pretty sure it's playable. Any further comments?
