Voice samples

Has anyone used voice samples yet - please share your experience/results!

Here is a rather crappy output of Jesu, meine Freude using "Voices of the Apocalypse" men and women choirs (this East West product is old and has been discontinued).

A more functional feature is the 'word builder' that makes the voices actually sing words.

I used Sibelius and export to MIDI, imported into Cubase, with KONTAKT as VST instruments. I couldn't figure out how to record track from within this environment, so I used a third party application that records wave out mix. Then Nero wave editor added a little reverb.

Comments please!

It sounds OK, with a bit more work it could sound realistic. Can I still find Voices of the Apocalypse somewhere? East & West's Symphonic Choirs are way too huge and I just need some powerful Ahs and Mms etc.

You should work on getting better voice samples- this sound very MIDI. If you cannot afford better samples now then I would do my best to make each line more melodic and organic. You can do this with multi-layered samples and velocity settings. Also with more care to production you can make each line more dynamic and (hopefully) more realistic.

Maxx doesn't seem to care for East West's Symphonic Choirs but I've used them a great deal with awesome results. Check out my Aquarion trailer on my website: . : : Madsen Studios : : . Note: they do have a steep learning curve and require a very powerful computer.

Nathan,

Can you explain how to setup Wordbuilder please? I've watched the tutorials from their website but it doesn't cover initial setup. I've managed to load the Wordbuilder as a an FX plugin in Cubase, but I'm lost on how to proceed.

On the other hand, the 'aah' samples themselves are already amazing! Here is the same midi executed with Symphonic Choirs:

Can't wait to actually hear words!

Well, I've managed to hook up Wordbuilder onto Cubase, I think. Here is my first attempt at making the choir sing with words (to the tune of London Bridge):

A little disappointed that even recognized English words are not enunciated properly under default configuration. Any tips from other Wordbuilder users?

Yes, PM me and we'll chat. I'll need to know what your set up is and which app you're using. Sorry for my delay, was busy with other stuff and didn't check back for a bit.

Thanks!

Nate

I think that you must spell them as they sound, not as they are written.

I've managed to get some pretty decent results using Wordbuilder with Cubase SX3. This was one of the better results, though it does make use of the preprogrammed latin phrases. Click
