Volante in C minor

Right... This is my first ever post, so... Hi!

Aside from that... Could you please take a look at this and give me some opinions? My inspiration was the mountains... The Rocky Mountains in the Bow Valley Parkway (lake louise, banff) that sorta part of canada... I was pretty well brought up there and wanted to write something to try and do it justice... This was taken straight out of sibelius, so the instruments are all virtual, so don't expect much lol!

volante in C minor: listen online

Thanks very much guys =]

Regards,

Dave

This isn't bad. The horn fanfare/intro was very nice and I like the deep string sound, but some of the notes were obscured due to the bass's timbre in the low register. I really like the use of each instrument. The melody and harmony is very flowing and beautiful. I particulary like the fact that no instrument seemed to be ignored. There are places where long notes are being held where some rythmic interest in the background can be created. It seems like the softest this piece gets is mf, can there be a little more dynamic variation, please? I also like the fact that this piece is coherent. Where did you get your samples? Mine are horrible. OMG the ending. It is too abrupt for the preceding majesty. Mabye you should extend the chords and use an extended PAC. i V i V i V i. something like that.

good job.

WELCOME TO YC!! I hope you do stay, if you go around and comment on the works of others and get your name out there, they may return the favor. Thats a big turn off for new users, is they post a piece and no one responds, (I've been there) just make some friends, we are really friendly here. Again, Welcome.
Now to the work...

Go Canada! haha My family is all canadian, so I'm a big fan of the land up north.
Actually, the piece isnt half bad. I love the melodies you are using and it flows really really beautifully. You really used the orchestra in some nice ways. Your harmonic structure was really interesting and most importantly, everything really fits together. I also felt little hints of Christopher Rouse, if you know him (if not, look him up! flute Concerto = amazing!) Really enjoyed this one! Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the piece and welcome again to YC!
