"Waltz" for the Piano

This is a short piano piece.

PS: The same note: MIDI can't play the trills.

Enjoy it!

You capitalised every word in your post?

Oh, the music, right...

Is it called "Waltz" or is it actually supposed to be a waltz? 6/8 time is not a waltz. If you want it to be, you can simply put it in 3/4 and double all of your note values (such that 16th become 8ths, ect.) ... but of course maybe you intended it to not feel like a waltz despite its name. I couldn't possibly tell. One way it makes you look like an ignorant fool, and the other way it makes you look like a right smartass.

The repeat sign at measure 14 appears to go back to bar 7, but instead the MIDI takes it back to the beginning. Not sure of the true intentions here. Also, do you really want to whole thing to be repeated at the end? If you want it to go back to the start of the piece, write dal capo or D.C. there. The other way it could be seen as is the end repeat going back to measure 18, but you don't have a reverse repeat sign there. The repeats in the piece are just too unclear. You also have no tempo mark, by the way. There should be at least something there, I think.

I sorta liked the piece, but it was a little too dissonant and chaotic for my tastes. I can appreciate dissonance, but it seems there is just enough consonance in this piece to make some of the dissonances sound overboard. Measure 9 for instances really grates on me ears with the chords in the right hand. They sound unnecessarily dissonant to me. That would be my only complaint, but then again, it can simply be a matter of taste.

It's not really my preferred style, but it is a waltz, theoretically.

A beautiful waltz Lovely harmonies, and I can certainly feel the waltz in it. I guess when properly executed, it will show the implied Oom-Pa-Pa beat.

I'm not sure why you chose to repeat the last part. In my opinion, it diminishes the dramatic effect of the ending.

A good work, keep up.

Bassam.

A lot of chords sounded like you just hit the keyboard with a hand and went with it. I appreciate dissonance as much as the next guy but come on - there's definitely a way to overdo it.

I as well couldn't hear the 1 2 3 and the reason is probably because you haven't taken note of strong/weak beats.

I actually quite liked bar 9 but I felt bar 13 was too much for me.

With the pulse, it's already lost on the first beat of the second bar. It's also not helped by the fact that the following notes in the bass cleff are on weaker beats. If you can really get an Oom-Pa-Pa feel at the beginning then I guess you'd be excused for making it less obvious in the middle of the piece. But to call it a waltz people really do expect you to have an obvious 3/4 beat.

That being said, I do enjoy your main theme and I really like bar 5. Well done!

When the MIDI file decides to match the score, give me a call and I'll tell you that this is not a waltz.
