Yes, these warm chords... I remember you showed me this before. I liked the piano, t'was a great touch. Didn't you say you were thinking of taking it out or something? I can't remember. But anyways... don't. Remember that odd glockenspiel note I brought up before? Well, it sounds fine now.

*notices modulation this time*

Ahh... bien fait, monsieur. Sounded good. Again, I love the piano reprise in the middle. Part after sounds ominous... but then it warms up. I think I heard a little bug right there... I DO like that 'cello. It's pretty. Is this piece meant to be a standalone or a looping piece? If looping, all the second half I would think is unnecessary. Unless of course there is development going on that I'm not picking up on... this piece is so pretty it's hard to pay attention to. Did that make sense? Heh.

Hehe, thanks for commenting. I was beginining to think you weren't going to.

This piece is meant to be looped, hence the whole second section. But if it were ever to be used in a videogame and it needed to be used as a standalone, then that could do-able as well.

Yes, there is a tiny bug in there. But *sigh*....taking it out would require about 10 minutes of work on Audacity and it just didn't seem worth it to take it out when it's barely noticeable.

Anyway, thanks again. Glad that you liked it.

Very nice atmosphere. I like the cello and clarinet(?) lines a lot, and the piano was a nice touch as well. The bell sounds seemed a little flaring to the ear, though, but it might be my speakers. As said before, the repeating string background felt a little repetitive, mainly because it's whole-notes-ish. I think it gets slightly on the chaotic side at 2:25-ish; mainly due to that guitar-ish thingy in the background, I think. The piano part in the middle was quite refreshing, as was the rejoining of the strings.

Overall, nicely done as far as composition goes. :> The sound library you use doesn't seem to do it the justice it deserves, though; ignore that if it's an actual recording.

Intresting use of..pitch bending! I think the first part starts to drag on a bit, but the piano and and strings leading into the loop are excellent for starters.

You've sort of got the mood there, it defintily feels like an "aftermath"...hmm I'm not sure. Usually I can go on and on forever about the stuff you right but I'm not coming up with anything for this one!

I think you pretty much capture the mood though, and the guitar part helps give it a bit of life before the piano cuts in, and that's excellent. You could almost expand that piano part and make it into a piece of its own: because THAT part really captures the identity of the main character, if that makes sense. When the piano is playing solo, my mind goes to the character then because he is reflecting on his own. Its an assosiation thing.

Anyway, good work, look forward to hearign mroe of your stuff!

Big bump.

I think that the actual writing is pretty damn good--you and I have a very similar style (don't take that as an insult if you think that I write crap. . .). I dig the seamless odd times, and the part-writing and harmonies in the strings. Your transitions are also quite professional, and transitions seem to be a pitfall of many composers on this forum.

Now, for criticisms: I think that the string patch you have has too weak of an attack. . . it takes too long to fade in. You could also try writing this out for individual stringed instruments and assigning a different sound to each part--I find that doing this thickens the sound and makes it sound less artificial.

Also, the piece seems to drag on a bit. Shorter sections could keep the listener interested for longer, as the problem isn't that the piece is repetitious, it's that the parts seem too long. This could just be my short, MTV-generation attention span.

And if anything that I wrote doesn't make any grammatical sense, it's because I recently took some melatonin.

. . .

Wow, I was expecting to see this thread again. Thank you, Spherenine. I haven't heard much of your music but I like what I've heard so I'll take it as a compliment. It's kinda an interesting connection that our styles would sound similar since we're both predominantly guitarists (even if I don't like to admit to being one anymore). I'd always thought I avoided a guitarist influence on in my music but maybe not so. Anyway, I agree. The string patch isn't very good and some sections do drag on for too long. Again, it's videogame music and I was trying to get as much length as I could out of a minimal amount of material.

Thank you for your comments.
