Western Orchestra Work

Well, this is the first time I post something that is not finished here...
First time for everything!

I could really use some advice on this one.
I was trying to get a sound like on the classic Hollywood western movies, but since I do not many of those scores, I am running out of study material, so I here I am asking you guys if you could tell me what you think of what is there allready and maybe give me a little push in (what you think is) the right direction??

I like your instrumentation. You've got a really nice melodic prelude set up, and if it were me, I would look for specific moments in movies to compose after or try to set up a story arc for the piece. It's aching to have a chase scene in there somewhere. Muahaha.

I don't know any exact western movies but I was listening to this just 3 days ago and it sounded very Western cowboy-ish to me.

The piece you have currently does remind me alot of a western movie theme.
More so than some I listened to in the past.

If you're looking for that western sound, listen to Ennio Morricone - This sort of sounds like the soundtrack to the 4th Tremors movie, so you're on the right track...

Thank you, but I feel that Ennio Morricone is a bit too 'good' for this kind a music. I think his music is not as commercial as the music in the John Wayne films, for example.

I got a cd from the library with all kinds of Western Film Music on it, so I'll listen to that one... a lot!

You might want to look into Elmer Bernstein's work on the two Magnificent Seven movies.

I was about to say, 'magnificent seven'.. Lol... (That has to be 'the' best western orchestrated soundtrack of all time ), Anyways, yeah what you have there is very good, very western, very nice indeed, you could consider adding something do give it a more consistent beat, during the beginning part of the 'magnificent seven' theme tune, there's a very nice, very obvious pedal note repeating in the 'background'. You could also consider timpani's, they add a nice impact at the end of phrases, and maybe some quiet, consistent string chords in the 'background' too.. Like what you've got, very good, keep at it..
