What Emotion?

This is a quick one I threw together.

Edit: I have now put a lot more time into this, so it is no longer a 'quick' one.

I am curious what emotion you think it depicts.

This is a combination of GPO and EWQL Gold

Here it is

When I listen to this my mind paints pictures of a dark gloomy night in the big city.
Many crimes are taking place on the streets.
People getting robbed and jumped in long alleyways.

I didn't realise you got new software, Ron? What would it be?
Last time I checked you were using GPO.
I did notice that the samples in this piece are much better though.

This piece needs dynamics at the moment. It sounds generic because it currently has little dynamic changes.
Have the instruments rise in volume quickly when the begin and the lower slightly as they begin to fade.
It will make them feel like they are weaving in and out with the oboe.

Nice little piece... resembles film music.

I also saw a possible death scene in this. I didn't want to say it for fear of being jumped on and everyone saying it sounds like something else. I was thinking along the lines of being pensive as well. I almost named the piece Pensitivity. Love the new software!

Bob

I have played with the dynamics a little, but this was more just to get a feel for my new toys. Eastwest had a sale on their stuff, a buy one and get the next free, so I borrowed a bunch and bought the EWQLSO Gold Bundle and have sent away for my free EWQL RA.600$ for 1300$ worth of libraries isn't a bad deal. Eastwest has changed to a new engine, so they are getting rid of the Kompakt Player stuff at good prices.

I was going for a Film style feel, so I guess I succeeded there.

Thanks guys

Ron

Ron,

Yes, a great sound. Where's the smiley for green with envy .

I found the mood dark, brooding, soul-searching and thus a little more extreme than "pensive" with touches of regret, remorse, maybe chagrin too but perhaps not so sad or severe as a death bed. Well, possibly a combination of pensivity and depression.

to me it's like a moment before you throw yourself out, lose yourself in a fight, or get drunk and rave mad.
the start build up reminded me of arvo part's lamentate moments

I'd say disenchanted and dejected. All of the emotion comments have been pretty varied, so this could encapsulate any number of affects, which is nice. The writing reminded me of a more modern Grieg, and he was a master at expressing emotion in his pieces.

Keep up the good work.

This is the 2nd one I have done with my new toys. I was planning on buying the Gold bundle this summer after the Math job and I get some money in my pocket, but I couldn't pass up the deal.

Piliorius

I kniow what you mean!

Spherenine

Grieg has always been one of my favorites. "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is just pure genious.

When do we get to hear more from your girlfriend?

Thanks guys. It means a lot to me for you to take the time to comment

Rolifer,

Congratulations on getting EWQL GOLD XP (and RA as well), you will enjoy those sounds for sure, I did!

Regarding the piece, it sounds solemn and cold. Death could be a possible image it portrays, as well as grief, despair and hopelessness. I love some of the harmonies in there. What's the soft percussion instrument? A xylophone? The timpanis were really well written, nice touch.
Before this piece, I tend to find your music a little too dissonant for my liking, but I'm starting to break through that barrier (thanks to an obssesive listening to John Williams and Dvorak), and now more complex harmonies tend to be a flavour I have came to like.

By the way, I can hear that you need more practice with EWQL, some of the attacks sound too steep. Decrease the velocity slightly. And try fading in and out instead of just "appearing" (use the mod wheel patches for this, if there isn't any, use the volume sliders).

I just got RA today (the free library from the 2 for 1 deal) and haven't had the chance to load it yet but look forward to playing with it as well. I am still learning how to draw in CC11 and getting the velocities correct as well. It will all just take practice. Thanks for the listen and the comments.
Oh, its the marimba. I do love the marimba.
