I would call this a minuet. It's quite pleasant by the way . The dance form, which applies to minuets, is aabbab. Or aabbccddab.

hi Artisimo! loved your charming minuet! it is perfectly self-standing but i added a second part to it, hope u don't mind
at first glance i thinked it was simple, but when i started to work on it i realised it has a very subtle and difficult, shifting harmony. very fine piece purely to enjoy, and also to learn composition more.

Very nice, pleasant, and charming. Good use of harmony, reminiscent of classical times. While harpsichord seems (I have never tried) difficult to compose for, since the notes have to keep moving constantly (unlike a piano, where notes can be held), you have seemed to keep the mood rather well. Congratulations.

Good day,

Evan

Great job! I only listened to the original, since that's the composer's version. If you 'accept' this addition to your work as legitimate, I'll listen to it, but I wanted to maintain the purity of your work for now.

Not only do you have excellent harmonies and a good sense of writing for the harpsichord, but your melody is outstanding. It's very pretty and charming, but even more so, you have a good main theme that's well established. Bravo!

Gentleman.
I'm honoured by your comments, especially because I appreciate and admire your compositions and other contributions here at YC.
I would love to have the feeling for orchestration that is exposed in some. But I'm a newbie and limited by knowledge and computerpower I have to stick to relatively simple compositions.
I love to compose for harpsichord because it (by nature) must be music on the move (like you said, Evan) and because moods can't be expressed in piano or forte, it has to be expressed in structure, tempo and/or ornamentation. For me it is a exciting new world I'm tredding.

to Frantz
The fact that you added a another voice is an honour, it means something in you started to resonate and inspired you. what more could I possably achieve?
It works like a contemporary addition to me in a improvisational style (especially the syncope's)
the only thing that puzzled me is the gap in the middle of the accompaniment.
You know, I sometimes think that a good piece of music has a secret melody, "invisible" to the ear but present in the subconscious. I often "invent/improvise" melodies to music while listening, especially when it is a well known piece, because you can project the improvised melody into the expected harmonies.

Again thanks for all the encouragement.

hi Artisimo!

glad that you have appreciated my elaboration yes, many pieces give me too that sensation of more things to be revealed, i love to work on others' works, it's like to a sort of conversation between the composer and me, where i comment the piece with new sounds instead of words. the gaps were left purposedly because i thinked that a newer melody extending itself all over the piece could be a too much heavy addition which could obscure the delicacy and tenderness of your composition, it's like spaces for breath and hear just your harmony.

best regards!!!!

That's exactly what I mean

I toke the liberty to write another voice to the menuet using the voice/material you wrote.
I take it you don't mind me making this into a hybrid composition.
Its less sterile now and the element of improvisation is still heard.
I think this is a intresting variation (at least for me to make)

Artisimo
