Hey again,

I love this piece to death. It's fairly short, so it won't take too much time to listen. Like I said, it's supposed to represent me (that is, my soul). I'd say it turned out pretty nicely.

It turns out that my life runs in a major key, but seeing as how I'm kinda wierd, and the fact that I hate to be conformative in all respects, I think d flat major was the way to go.

Sorry it's a NotePad 06 file. I'm new to this and really don't know how to make midis (don't think I can with NotePad). I guess you can't play it in earlier versions... sorry about that.

Anyway, here it is. If you like it or hate it, please post your comments. I'd really appreciate your feedback.

The piece was pleasant to listen to, and I really loved the ending.

Some things I think that could have benifited this piece are: more modulations, a development with a new theme, and more variations. Your piece seemed almost like a loop, and I think I only heard one part where you started to modulate but then didn't. Also, the left hand of the piano gets a little monotonous. Try mixing it up. All I heard was quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. When the right hand of the piano was playing it was almost accompanying using arpeggios, and at one time scales. You said this is a duet. Usually in a duet both instruments have a good amount of time with the melody. In this piece the melody really never went to the piano. At times its nice to have the piano accompanied! There were a few harmonic errors I noticed, but this is more of a "modern" style piece, so I'm guessing it was more than likely intentional.

Try revising it a little, adding some new melodies, changning the accomp., and sharing the melody. Also, throw in a little minor section!

Revise and repost please!

yeah...but I think this piece falls under no form. Free-form is ok. I just don't it.

Your piece is extremely melodic, and it has beauty. There is an identifiable theme, which is good!

Your left hand in the piano boring. Your rhythms don't really change a lot, or at least none are extremely interesting. I disagree with Evan about the ending. It would be a good ending for a moderate, joyous piece. It doesn't fit your piece. Maybe a ritardando followed by a nice fermata on a nice chord?

Composers always think they're music is "wonderful", in your case, but others have opinions and tastes.

Overall, your piece was beautiful, but not MY style. Which is why I gave the critique I did. If it was a classical, Beethovenesque cello sonata, heck it would have loved it.

Anyway.

Have a good day,

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your comments.

*note to self* Do not use fast-reply. If accidental leaving of page occurs, well... you're screwed.

I play cello very profficiently (and know its limits). The piano, however, I am not so sure about, and when given the choice between exciting, and playable, I tend to err on the side of caution, and make the piano part ridiculously easy. I will rework the piece to give a little more excitement to the left hand, alternate the melody a little more, and add a longed-for minor section (how could I have forgotten?).

When I finish, I will repost on this thread.

Keep an eye out, it shouldn't be long!

My thanks
Evan
