Very interesting. I liked your piece, but I can't agree it's atonal. To my ear it is clearly in C Major.

What's C Major about it?

Okay I'll say only the 'C' part . Not major. But clearly, during the whole piece the ear interpretes c as tonic, and even though it ends not in c, but in h(in the sense of b), my ear longed for c. Tonality isn't about scales, tonality is about whether or not you have tonic, and how namy of them. That's my opinion.

Oh yeah, I'd say it had a tonal center - I see what you mean

Thanks

Well, I actually liked this quite a lot. It was nice to hear something... different on these forums for once. Too many people get caught composing sterotypical Romantic/Classical music that has already been treaded and explored quite a bit so to hear something like this was refreshing. The only way I can readily think to describe it is something Bartok would write... on cocaine. I can't readily think of a way to improve this; there were a few mildly odd moments that felt like you were just going for a "WTF?!" rather than actually remaining consistent to the internal logic of the piece. And also, this is most certainly not atonal. I can definetly hear a tonal center. Now, it's definetly not your typical diatonic major/minor tonality, it's a different kind of tonality altogether. Maybe bi-tonal. Anyway, fun piece. This is actually the second time I've listened to it (which is 50 percent than I do for most pieces on here. XD). I suspect there might be a third time too. :]

There is a tonal center, sure, which means it isn't atonal, sure, but more continuously modulating modes, I guess. There is a term for something that isn't typically tonal and not atonal, but I have been away from this stuff for too long to remember what it's called. (I will have to get back to you on that part.)

Anyway, with the right performer with the right artistic license, this piece could be really freakin' cool on a recital somewhere. Of course I understand that there is only so much a MIDI file can do, so it would be really great to hear a polished performer do something with it.

Regarding the style, it is very much like the coined phrase "machine music" (not to be confused with Reed's "Metal Machine Music" if you try to Google it). I can't find anything online discussing what I am talking about so I will shut up now.
