Hm. This is an idea. Mallets can project pretty well though. I have never had trouble hearing them in my local orchestra, but maybe that's just because I'm all the way in the back as one of the Clarinets...

but more instruments means more parts and more complexity giving room to make the music more interesting. and most all indoor percussion ensembles have this kind of instrumentation.

NO..... but pairs are fine. The score would be an okay size. I think one bell part and one chime part will suffice.... I'm not sure whether we should double vibes or xylophone.... definitely two marimbas, though. What's the norm? Two vibes and xylo parts, or one of one and two of the other?

OMG The last thing I want to deal with is MORE PARTS!! Unless, we have too many people to put one person on one instrument, or something like that...

Regardless, is that melody that I wrote being used for the Exposition (A)?

I thought we were doing this by measures, not instruments?

Say I write the introduction, maybe 12 measures, then Virtualshock kicks in and introduces Theme A, but he doesn't feel comfortable writing the battery parts. The next person in line can write the battery parts, or write the next block of measures.

I'd like that we all work on all the parts, anything anybody wants to change, they can change, but not too drastically unless it's called for. We can do this on a whatever is left basis... not really much in the way of guidelines, just do what you want for a few measures, and pass it on to the next person who can fill in any missing parts and/or write the next few measures. Okay with everyone, or do we want something else?

We may use your theme, Alan, yes, but let's see if anybody else comes up with something interesting.

I like the idea, but I have zip experience writing for this ensemble. I'll give it a shot though!

I don't care if the melody is or isn't used. I was just curious, that's all.

  • EnigmusJ4 -> confirmed participant
  • Spectrums
  • pricewalden -> confirmed participant
  • Virtualshock -> confirmed participant
  • IHoldThePenHaHa -> confirmed participant (submitted thematic idea)
  • Dev -> confirmed participant (submitted thematic idea)

Spectrums hasn't been online since Dec. 21st...
You forfeit participation if you can't participate actively.... so... I hope he gets back soon.

Anybody else want to submit thematic ideas? Mallet or battery. Simple. If not... we'll get started.
