Okay, for some reason Finale quantized a few thirty-second notes here and there. I actually liked how it sounded, it fit the style we're forming here better, so I left it as it was, sixteenths where the thirty-seconds were. Also, somebody's midi lost the patch change I made that made the 'cello play pizz. I changed to back to pizz and changed the other parts to pizz for those eight measures as well. It's nice that you guys kept the accompaniment simple there, thanks, even though first violin has a little more motion and distracts from the 'cello. I just turned the dynamic down there. And the next section, where bluey added the next 8 bars, I left that as arco violin I and added a pizzicato violin II which goes to arco halfway through. I also changed bluey's last note, he had an E octave double stop, I took out the E and replaced it with an A, since the triple stop that I put in violin II there would cover the E. This keeps the chord balanced.
I thought it was interesting that Bluey started the melody on beat 1 instead putting as a pickup. Since the ear tends to get use the hearing it a beat early and since I put pizzicato chords in violin II on the off beats, it would be best if prefferably 'cello laid down some heavy first and third beats to keep the sense of beat in the right place. I think it would be nicest to have the violin I solo arco for those first four measure, so the rest of us are all pizz until the last four bars, and then we're all arco.
Also, in addition, I think we should start thinking about form about now. I was thinking of a trio section soon. Maybe after the next 8 bars. In a different key altogether and contrasting melody. We should do a trio for a while, and maybe agree on doing a full recapitulation note for note, and then develop towards an ending. Any other suggestions are welcome, of course, this is a group effort.
Please as a suggestion, listen to this midi as it is
before you open it up in Finale or whatever notation software you use. See what all is going on in the midi, since sometimes when you open the midi in a program it loses some of the data like dynamics or more importantly, patch changes.
Cheers.
P.S. Do the rest of you play strings? I'm just curious, since I can assume Paganani plays violin, but I can't be sure about the rest of you. I play violin as well, but that's it for strings.
