It's not a triplet....at least, not at first (comes back later as a triplet, I believe, but that's besides the point). In the first movement, Beethoven's 5th symphony starts off with in 2/4 meter and the motif is simply 4 eighth notes (starting on the second one of the measure: ...and 2 and 1 (not 1 2 3 1) is how it goes, with the rest indicated by an ellipsis

Anyway, thought I should mention that so you know a triplet and three notes aren't the same

. Oh, and Beethoven's 5th symphony
is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite, though I'd probably say my favorite Beethoven symphony is his 9th.
