Creation Tone Poem
So this was for the September Competition and and per the rules I do need to give a little bit of background into the piece.
I chose for this piece the Egyptian creation theme (no this doesn't sound Arabic or middle eastern in the slightest I just used the story as a beginning point). So essentially the concept of the myth is that the first god, Atum who rose from the water and due to loneliness or boredom (it's not very clear) created the two gods, Shu, the god of air and his sister Tefnut, who represented the emptiness of space. From these two came the gods Geb and Nut the gods of earth and sky and from there they created Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nepthys. The main gods we are familiar with today and who then created the splendor that is our planet depending on which version of the myth you are reading.
If you have any questions or remarks regarding the piece pleae drop me a comment, I'll be sure to get back to you as soon as I can.
Hope you all enjoy it!

I heard it. It seems to me you relied mostly on changing harmonies rather than melodic material to tell your story. I think your (small) ensemble could be hard-pressed to render such harmonies - but I might be biased into mistake by the playback. Nevertheless, it's a good work, esp. given the short notice and the ambitious program behind it.
Given the nature of the competition I had decided on writing the piece in a simpler tone, hence the complete lack of enharmonic notes. I chose to write it in C major because of the relationship of the competition, it is after all about the beginning of the world, and then extrapolate from there what I could in terms of melodic complexity while maintaining a static key. But yeah it was a conscious decision to write it that way. It's also why I kept it somewhat short. This sort of writing would get VERY boring very quickly otherwise.
