Of Death And Whimsy

Scores

Finale 2008 - [of death and whimsy]

This is just a short, trivial piano piece that I've been working on today. Think it's pretty much done -save any future revision I may decide to make. Hope you enjoy.

Clean up the score, but otherwise a lovely little ditty. The accels/rits will certainly help with the "whimsical" feeling of the piece. Time should eb and flow I guess. I also like the subtle touches of humor in the march.
There's a certain unsettleness in this music, especially in its beginning... And there's also the bizarre feeling of a march in 3/4. I can tell you really know how to score anything to achieve what you want. Good job.
Don't know if I'm missing something obvious, what's with the hairpins in the beams?

If that means something I'm unfamiliar with it. I know I should have paid attention in notation seminar...

I thought it was fairly interesting. The first four measures have a real nice ascending feel up to that major third in the right hand, that's what caught my ears attention the most. It seems you have several points in the piece using an ascending motive, and I like how you developed that triplet beethoven's 5thish motive that you see first at the end of measure five. But, I thought the left hand was kind of empty during the development of that motive in measures 21-39. It's just kind of repetitive and empty, I wouldn't have minded seeing at least some of that empty space filled in with some interesting harmonies.
Thanks, Dominus. The feathered beaming is meant to indicate that the set of notes either accelerate or diminish (< or >) in note value. That was the only point in the entire piece really. I need to go back through and update this some. I like your idea on adding interesting harmonies. Good idea.
Ok, I get it. That's interesting.
I liked it. The pitch content gives a prominent place to 3rds and 6ths. That makes it very accessible to hear. I really loved all the tonal implication.
Also very whimsy to write a 'marcia' in 3/4, lol.

One question. How do you determin which enharmonic to choose? For example ms 24 LH I would expect a sixth here too, not a diminished 7th...
But anyway. I enjoyed this, thanks
