Toccatina

Final version of my Toccatina.

Yes very clear and since you needed to place the dynamics at places other between staves, having it below works because it is consistent and the beaming draws the eyes in that direction.
I liked it a lot, nice harmony, who's playing ?
Can someone please move this to "member uploads"? I don't know how it ended up in music appreciation...

I know the "Music Appreciation" is intended for musicians known to the public. But otherwise I would not have minded if it stayed there. It's indeed a nice piece to be 'appreciated'. It's not entirely 'atonal', and has a lot of Debussyian touches.
sounds like something from stravinskys jazz period (piano-rag music, ragtime) and almost a touch from his early four etudes (am i right?) i like it
It is really nice!
very rhythmic, powerful and scherzo like!
I agree with tomalakis it also gives me a sense of stravinskys jazz period
Only the most badass thing ever.
It's down to pure taste, really.
I wouldn't listen to this personally, but I know people who would. Yeah there's that guy above me with his badass thing ever comment, but that's his opinion.

I think you will find with this kind of music, people who understand the harmony, and understand music are the people who are going to like it, but I would avoid sharing this with other people who are not musical, as they may hear it differently to us.
Dan,

The beauty of music is that one doesn't need to 'understand' harmony to get a reaction from it. I appreciate your suggestion to keep my music a secret and to not show anyone, but the piece being a "Toccatina" sort of lends itself to, you know: being performed. I've already premiered the piece in front of an audience of musicians and non-musicians alike and had good reactions.

Something to keep in mind: there is nothing wrong with different interpretations of music. When writing this piece, my emotional intentions were to be obscure. The piece has almost a scherzo quality, but falls a little short due to some darker sections and harmonies which lean towards other moods. I've had people respond to my piece from all directions. One person said it invoked fear in her while another student said it was almost on the edge of being 'jazzy'. I welcome these different interpretations. My intentions being clear now, there is no collective 'understanding' and the opposite for non musicians. I've encountered plenty of 'non' musicians whose intuition was much more sharper than a 'musician' so those two labels are extremely inadequte in the context.
