Rondo for str qt

This is just a short Rondo for String Quartet. The form is full rondo (ABACABA). Hope you enjoy!

NOTE: The first note didn't quite render at the right dynamic (mf) so, it will sound a bit offset.

I like what you have, also love the cello imitative answer of a violin phrase of the A theme. What for me is not working is the form, but I think that is a something I have against rondo's in general. The A theme appears too often and sounds too literal (?) repeated that it gets too much, close to boring unfortunately. And I really regret to say this, because I like the idea of the A theme.

And when you consider the ABA as one unit, the C theme that is in between those two ABA sections is too short to contrast. But I again, this critique might be due to the fact that I am no fan of the rondo form ;)
131 downloads and only 1 comment? That's depressing :(
Okay I'll comment :)

I'm not a music major or anything (and will be the first to say I don't rank with your compositional ability) but sadly I have to agree Jaap. First, I really don't like Rondo form. No matter that you wrote perfectly to form, it's kind of boring I'm afraid (no offense). Yes, you did follow form, and as far as that goes it's a great piece. As a note in personal taste, 14 pages in the same key gets a little too monotonic for me....
BUT
I do like it, it's just repetitive. In fact, I have to agree with Jaap again (sorry I'm stealing all his comments). I like the cello answering the theme of the violin as well, nice effect.

It is a good piece, I don't mean to sound like I am knocking it down. Thanks for sharing :)
I really like the harmony and the A theme is very nice but 4 times without variation is a little bit to much of the same. And why did you write it in 3/4 instead of 2/4?
Though a-tonal music *if I am right in saying that this is rather a-tonal* does not really have a great esthetic impact on me..I must admit I liked this piece quite a bit. it was bouncy and out-going.
I wouldn't necessarily call this 'atonal' at all. There is definitely somewhat of a tonal sense to it - just one that is highly chromatic in nature.
I really really like the charm of the work. It has a definite character which sticks out immediately.
