Woodwind Quintet

A somewhat finished piece. Horrible form, please suggest transition and restructuring ideas.

First of all: what type of form did you have in mind? Would you like to create a pack of preludes or a more classicaly oriented cycle form? To me, this sounds like an opening movement of a larger work. It has a prelude-like atmosphere and a typial a-b-a form with coda. It's not horrible. Perhaps b section (1:01) should be faster to make a better contrast, even though it's not a bad contrast since a section is mostly written in block harmonies and b section uses motifs on separate instruments. But I believe the section between 1:57 and 2:22 should be removed and used somewhere else. It is an empty episode without structural mean. The repetition of a section is copy paste and you can make it more interesting by using variations of motif, different instrumentation more exciting movement of background counterpoint... I cannot tell you how to do this, I can just advise you to make it more interesting. The final chord is a good anticipation of something to follow. Good luck!

I believe when I originally wrote it, I had something like Barber's "Summer Music" in mind regarding form. Not sure what you'd call that.
Barber's Summer Music is probably considered a Sonatina like composition with rather more relaxed and easy going music.
