Piano Concerto No. 1 in g "The Glass"

A piece created for my Juilliard audition. Let me know what I need to work on.
Comments on listening:
I'm not sure I would describe this as Impressionistic. You also seem to go through a lot of ideas in this piece. I would recommend pairing this down to just a few ideas - to present a better illustration of what you are capable of doing. This sort of also has a bit of a through-composed feel to it. By that I mean, you go from one idea to the next with more of an abandonment of formal structure. I also agree with Javileru, some of your instrumentation sounds off kilter. I hope this helps. I do like your ideas here! Thanks!

Tons of ideas. And a fairly good recycling of them throughout the piece. I would suggest further development of the best 3 ideas or so. My favorite sounds include the timpani with trombone or french horn (& bassoon?) at the beginning (which I think is the main theme or main structural component), the soaring flute part around 2:50, and all of the background coloration with the clarinet.
1:30 - 2:10 seems like an entirely different piece.
3:40 starts to sound like 2 ideas fighting for precedence and then being squelched by an early cadence with the timpani and brass part.
4:50 is quite nice, but again sounds like a new piece.
5:30 or so seems like a piano cadenza that butted it's way in.
The timpani hits followed by a slight dramatic silence suggest that something important is about to happen. Instead, it seems like they are being used to end the section(s). That they create a landmark is great... but what are they marking?
Definitely interesting! Keep up the good work!
(As above, the timpani did peak on the recording... but I think a concert hall would handle it well.)

One small observation...the timpani can get a little too loud in my opinion... from FFF perhaps to FF what do you think?
