Violin sonata in e-minor
Hallo,
I'd like to present to you my sonata for violin and piano in e-minor in Classical/Romatic style. This work means very much too me. Alle 3 movements are built on the same main motif (e - b - a - c - b):
I. Allegro man non troppo
II. Arioso Andante dolente
III. Tarantella - Allegro con fuoco
Gerd

You categorize this in the sub genre neo-romantic, but I found it too much tied to a common practice era, lacking anything "neo". I felt there where many parallels, sometimes created by doubling the 3rd (most often a leading tone), sometimes progressions like i6-ii-i where the melody (sometimes embellished) moves parallel to the bass. Summarized it comes down to some lack of counterpoint.
Granted the melody is nicely soothing, but that was about the only really romantic feat I could find. So I do not agree with Austenite that it "fits neatly on an early Romantic fashion"
I like you trying to give the piece some structural unity by basing it all on the same motif. I think you can vary some more. You do that texture-wise, which is good. But very often the harmonic scheme below that stays the same.
Keep up!

I've listened so far to the Andante Dolente only. The piece fits neatly on an early Romantic fashion, by the likes of Schubert and Mendelssohn. The only comment so far comes not from the score (BTW thanks for loading it - it makes the work all the more enjoyable), but from the rendering, which is credibly done but, for some reason, seems to display some violin notes noticeably out of step (esp. in the introduction, the passage with the double stops). Otherwise I find the piece very carefully crafted, although I think the ending could have used a bit more energy (preparing the listener for what I guess will be a vivacious Tarantella).
I'll make my best to listen to the complete work as soon as possible - and in the right order
