Composition for solo piano (minimalistic modern classical)

This is one of my first compositions for solo piano. I am a blues and jazz guitarist and don't know much music theory at all. Last few years I've been taking a huge interest in minimalistic classical music and piano playing; so this is a result that comes from that. I have lots of other pieces that I am currently recording and making. If you like this I'd love to share the rest with you. ^_^

Any feedback is welcome (don't really care about the theory behind it, but if you have any comments on the feelings the music give or don't give I'd very happy)!

Kind regards!

At first I though this somewhat common. Until 2:00, that is. Then there was a really interesting quirky harmonic turn. Also the end uses this chromatic odd, interesting thing, that makes this somewhat more unique in its genre.

I think you did a nice job maintaining interest. Especially with your little knowing about theory. But I would strongly encourage you to dive in some theory as well as it provides you with even more tools to maintain interest.

Thank you very much for the feedback! I will really take that in mind. I try to make things as simple as possible but still try to make it give the listener some kind of feeling. I don't know where to start learning about theory really. I have never studied music. I don't know how to reat notation either. So I guess it'd be quite a huge leap for me, and I like improvising by ear. It is great fun! =) You have any suggestion where to start if I want to learn theory?
Nice work! Your interest in minimalism shows very clearly, and you seem to have grasped its core. Yet, as Jaap pointed out in his review, you manage to keep things interesting by making unexpected melodical and harmonical turns.

In a sense, I can relate to your lack of theory background. I've never formally studied music, so I'm essentially a self-taught composer. But I've made a point of learning at least basic notions of musical theory, not to constrain my creativity but rather to have tools to enhance it, as Jaap just noted above. Thanks for sharing!

PD. (I was about to ask about the score of this piece :P )...

Thank you so much! Great to hear about other composers with similiar background. :-)
I put together some sheet music for it (did it by using guitar tabulature.. timing was rather easy since I know how I play it).
I'd so very very happy and thankful if you or someone played it. It is hard to explain how great for me that would feel.
Here is the sheet (in .pdf): https://docs.google....mE4ZGFiYzMwY2Mx

I think the link should work! Tell me if it doesn't. :-D

Thank you so much again. I'll be uploading a new piece that is more experimental in some ways with piano, clarinet, altosax and doublebass. It is also minimalistic in nature but with alot of more "unusual" harmonies.

Thanks again!
Really like this piece. I've written a few minimalistic pieces (PG fanboy, right here!), but I genuinely think yours is far nicer to listen to than any of mine.
My one criticism is with the score - pianos are written for on two staves, usually with one treble (upper) and one bass (lower). As a pianist, I'd love to play your piece, but do you think it'd be possible for you so stick it on a piano stave at all?

Great job, anyway. :)
*to
really like the development of this track dude! keep up the good work and i look forward to hearing more pieces! reminds me of ludovico Einaudi in a way. Deffo my style of playing :) p.s. hope you like my piece i have uploaded!

Cheers,

Joe.

I am afraid I don't know how to write music very good (I do everything I make by ear). If you'd play my piece I'd be so happy! :-)
I can try to see if I can make something better scorewise.

D'you have any of your pieces uploaded? I'd love to listen. :-)

Not at all. :)
Your efforts aren't bad, I promise you. The score's just a bit difficult to read. Musically, it's epic. :D
I'd love to play it at some point. :) I could send you a recording if you'd like.
I have a few up. I'll put the PG inspired one up now. :) See what you think.

Thank you very much hehe. :-)
I'll definatley listen! I'd love a recording, that'd make me so glad and thankful!
I'd echo jrcramer's original review, except that for me it "woke up" around the one minute mark rather than the two. Good piece.
awesomesauce:))
I like this piece. The imagery it evokes for me is of a lonely, desperate wan in a suit wandering through city streets during winter, something very heavy on his mind. I could see something like this working well in a movie.
