Sonata for String Quartet

Hey everyone!

This is my second attempt at a string quartet. I was trying to make something spanish-guitar influenced, while taking into account much of the advice I got on previous peices I submitted...

I'm still working mostly on developing "craft", and as such don't have to much of a deep emotional idea for this peice. Any suggestions, criticisms and advice will be appreciated!

Thanks for listening, and enjoy!

The composition don't have any creative rhythms. The repeating 16th notes can become tiresome quickly.

Bar one: Extremes high and low - not good writing. You need the second violin at least to fill the gap between these two notes. You also need to invest in pedal notes.

Study the Quartets of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. They will be extremely helpful to you. Also do a harmonic analysis on these quartets - they are very inspiring.
Pieter points out several tips that you should dearly consider. I'd add another one: the piece is lacking in tension. Though the main theme is good material to begin with, the harmonic progressions stay mostly unvaried. This detracts from the interest generated by the piece, as there's no conflict to be "resolved" (in the same sense as in a short story or a novel). Go with Pieter's advice: study the String Quartets of Mozart, Beethoven (esp. the latter ones) and Schubert. You'll be astounded by how much you learn from them.
