String Quartet

I could probably talk all day about the way this piece has come about so I'll try to keep it short. Each of the four instruments works roughly within its own set of intervals and its own tempo:

Violin I: M2nd, m7th, P4, P5  : 1 beat= 4 semiquavers

Violin II: M2nd, m7th, M3rd, m6th  : 1 beat= 5 semiquavers

Viola: m2nd, M7th, m3rd, M6th  : 1 beat= 7 semiquavers

Cello: m2nd, M7th, tritone  : 1 beat= 3 semiquavers

I deviate from this whenever I feel it necessary but these are the general "rules" I set up for myself.

As for form, structure etc., my idea was to start off with an idea which would also end the piece but when it returned it would be distorted and only vaguely recognisable. In between the start and end I move through material related mainly to the "rules" I set up for myself in an attempt to keep the whole thing coherent and consistent. The main challenge for me was to create convincing transitions between each idea and I'd like to think I managed it.
