Prelude (and Fugue) in A major (Live recording)
5 Votes
The recording was provided by Ian, so all applause goes to him
Prelude (3' 29")
This piece is in the form of a nocturne, and it happens to be a personal favourite of mine, which is why I have kept it over from the previous set of preludes and fugues. The form is best described as ABABACCoda.
Please tell me what you think!

Bravo! Absolutely fantastic! I loved the different shaped arpeggios and the playful melodic ornamentation; I'm always a fan of moving in thirds as well, and I thought the harmony was very beautiful; not to mention the playing!
very nice piece! slightly resembles the motifs of beethoven's moonlight sonata
nice playing too!!
nice playing too!!
Really good piece -- it's like a mix between Chopin's language and Beethoven's language, somehow. It has a sophisticated sound, but it also comes with some slightly-startling harmonic choices (like at measures 11 & 12), and there's a certain terseness of the phrasing that gives it a tougher feel than you'd think.
Most of it really enthralled me -- but I did not really like measures 21-24. It had a sort of static quality to it that I did not really enjoy as a contrast to the more fluid atmosphere you'd created both before and after that passage. Maybe that's somewhat ridiculous of me to feel that way, but that's just how it struck, honestly.
Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on a really nice live recording =D This was really nice to listen to

Very nicely done, composer and performer alike!
