Piano Solo

I don't have a name for this one.  I was writing a fantasy, but I wrote one little section that had almost a ragtime feel to it.  This was the result.  I scrapped and rewrote the whole piece, because this sounded a lot more fun to play.

I really have no idea what to call it, because I don't know if it's really a rag or not.  So I just put piano solo.  I don't really have any background info on it, it just kind of happened.  Kind of inspired by the feel of Joplin, specifically "Euphonic Sounds".

Please, comments and suggestions are always very welcome.  Thanks.  Enjoy

Hey! This is a ragtime if I ever saw one :P

The piano writing has an issue in one spot: left hand at bars 36-37. that is HARD. I don't know how playable that will be, but I doubt most people could play it so accurately.

bar 22 is filler. I think just go down the scale to the C sharp and then get right into the section.

Use sharps not flats! it's in a sharp key not b double flat major!

Other than that, I really enjoyed this. I can see it on a video game or tv :)

Good work!
Thanks Hecklephone!

Yeah I had wondered if it would be a little much. But I added it anyway. I'm debating, but I think I might keep it, and make it an octave run, which might make it more playable.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on ms. 22. I felt like it was an introduction to the new theme, rather than a filler. I never had the intention of a filler.....but different opinions are refreshing and help give a broader perspective, so thanks for the observation.

And last, yeah, that's terrible. I switched keys on my score, but left it all in flats, accept the intro (which I wrote after). I'll change that hahaha.

Thanks so much for the feedback, I appreciate it! :)
Very enjoyable toetappign rag indeed. But as Heckelphone said It can be quite hard to perform on the piano. The octave bassruns , the full chords and at that speed. I'd be impressed to find someone playing it like that. still it sounds delightful.

Good work indeed!
Thank you for your comments! I understand it is a difficult piece....I myself cannot play it. However I have a couple of friends who may be able to. It's difficult, but it's nothing impossible. And I'm debating, like I said to Heckel, I may rewrite some of the left hand (such as 36) but I feel that pianists who work at it could probably get it if they really work at it... so I'll probably leave it. But thanks so much for your time and review!
Hey :) This piece certainly has a nice rag-ish feel and some nice swing to it. You've got a very chameleonic style, I noticed -- you quite readily take to the general "feel" of certain quite disparate musical forms. Nevertheless, might I suggest a few possible improvements?

1. Modulate a little! It's not necessary (at all) in ragtime, but it helps to give the piece that bit of much-appreciated color.

2. I think you've notated this in the wrong key -- it's in A major, not D major as the score indicates. That's why there are so many G#s peppered throughout the score -- it's in A maj! Also, all your Abs should actually be G#s. A small change, but I think it'll make the score look a lot prettier. :)

3. Last small suggestion, though this is really more a quirk of mine than any objective recommendation -- maybe some slurs here and there to better indicate phraseology?

Btw, this piece is completely playable. The octaves could come without excessive trouble to anyone who does their hanon dutifully.

I agree, I think the entire piece would be a breeze for dedicated pianists.

I didn't notice this piece before, Gunnell! (May I call you Gunnell? Or do you like HT better?) I really like this -- score issues aside which have already been noted, the music is a lot of fun, and a joy to listen to. I found myself kind of bobbing along to the rhythm at times :D

Thanks for sharing, I really loved this :phones:
Hahahahaha I really never have put my first name huh? Well you can call me Hayden. Yeah, I understand the issues with the scores, that has been adjusted in my own score, just too lazy to reupload I suppose. Hahaha thank you for your compliments! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I personally love ragtimes and I had a lot of fun writing one.

My style is derived from the fact that I love to try different styles, its fun! Though hopefully you will find that I do add my own little style in each one!

1- Huh.....I know it could use it, I guess I got carried away writing it. I think I can get away with it in this piece, but I will most certainly incorporate at least a couple of modulations in the next rag I write!
2- I know, I change keys, forgot to change accidentals, changed back, etc....it became a mess......I've worked on that though! Just never reuploaded.
3- Yes I know that I could have added some of those. I might actually look into it, because I listened to a couple of pianists work on it and they really slaughtered some of the phrasing, so thanks!

And yes, to both of you, it is completely playable, and I think relatively enjoyable. Thank you both for your comments and compliments! I really appreciate it! Sorry it took so long to get back......my computer kind of exploded.....anywho thanks!
Great work man! :) really enjoyed listening to this... abit different to my playing style but i wonder what your thoughts are :)

Joe.
