I find this composition interesting and also see lots of sections to improve it.
To me the finest part is the slow section of first movement. This is a moment where your music really shows invention. Maybe you could make strings more exciting and not only use long block chords.
Your usage of pizzicato is not good. Perhaps you should listen to Britten's simple symphony first.
Despite being relatively strong instrument, Cello always struggles to avoid been "eaten" by orchestra. Since your orchestration is always rich, you should perhaps sometimes shrink it a bit.
You also maintain c minor and f minor tonalities for too long. Maybe some surprising modulations would enrich the music. Don't forget, strings are not too well suited for tonalities with lots of flats.
The contrasts between movements are not big so the composition could slightly suffer from too much similarity of content.

Thank you for the interest you show for my first compositions. I thank you also for your fine suggestions. About the contrasts between movements, I wanted a homogeneity on all the concertino, because this work is short as a first movement of concerto. And for the cello "eaten" by the orchestra, this default is mainly provoked by the software "Finale". But this is true that I didn't want compose a concerto FOR a solo cello, but a concerto WITH a solo cello (the cello is too bad on the software "Finale"). About the pizzicatos, of course I will study the score of Benjamin Britten's "Simple Symphony".

I have listened your "Double Concerto for flute and harp". I like this work very much. I have a proposition for you about this concerto (I will write to you on YouTube)...

On an other hand, can I suggest you to listen to my "Alice in Wonderland", concertino for harp and chamber orchestra (2010) ?

With respect,

Corentin Boissier
I'd say the same as Sojar, it's very hard to do pizzicato at a fast speed and make it heard. It's interesting at the beginning with the original theme, but again I'd say that it does need more harmonic variety.

Interesting idea about having a solo cello with the orchestra. Although, it seems rather pointless if it is drowned totally by the orchestra, and the cymbals.

But otherwise, interesting. I like the F minor section. But it does jump around a lot, and the pizzicato bits won't work very well... Britten's Simple Symphony uses pizzicato across different strings, which is the easiest way to play passages quickly with pizz. If you use scales, you have to pluck the same string repeatedly which can be hard,

It does indeed need review. But, great ideas here :)

Kind regards,

Elliot
I will point out one Dvořak's cello concerto. Even such a famous work has problems with balance. Dvořak also uses large orchestra and several times the cello solo suffers by being eaten.
I will listen to your Alice in Wonderland soon.

See you on youtube
