Shine Down

The sum of all that is good does not come easy, nor without definitive pain and loss. This is evident in our will to fight for what is ours. It is written in the tomes that have governed great nations, great philosophies, and great societies for millennia, and will continue, steadfast, into the future. It is here we remember. Shine Down for Wind Orchestra/Wind Ensemble, celebrates the ideal of freedom and the road to achieve it.

Hello!

First of all, amazing piece, I always feel like composers should get more praise for their great works, and this is definitely a great piece! In the beginning though, I feel like the Euphonium part would work a bit better in the Horn. (and no, the file is not broken XD I just read that fine print hidden at the bottom) I also must praise your ability to write percussion! (any advice?) I can't write well for percussion, the best I do is timpani, bass drum, and suspended cymbals (which I rarely write for because of bad playback, but I got the new finale 2011, which claims to be better with percussion, so we'll see), but other than that, congas, Xylaphone, Vibraphone, SNARE DRUM, I can't write. So, good for you, and a little bit of jealousy for me. Also, I feel like the style and the message, although both brilliant, may be a bit overdone, what can you do with this, to make this piece different than all the other "yay freedom" pieces which are already widely spread across the market?

Please don't let any of my comments (if in some possible way, some how, you see it negative) let you down, I'm just giving you something to work on, which is already better than, in my opinion, most pieces I can write. So, overall, good job and Keep it up!

Thanks for the criticism. Percussion advice: get with a percussionist and start to learn their lingo, lol. That's what I did. The freedom kick: I'm a Marine Corps Band, so it's kinda on my mind...often. But, I see what you mean - perhaps I will modify the idea a little. I will tinker around with the horn vs. euphonium part. I think you may be onto something.
ok, thanks, I'm talking to a percussionist right now XD. Also, I must say, there are some really fun rhythms in your piece.

I was also hoping if you could take a look at some of my music, I think you just click my name, or click on "Home" in the side. I'd really love your criticism

Absolutely! Anything to help out a fellow composer.
I really enjoy this piece. It fits the description well. Definitely a joy to listen to. I really enjoy the melodies, countermelodies and harmonies. I love pieces that keep interest, and this one does just that. Nice percussion, too!
