Our Adventures, op. 1
This is a song cycle written for bass/baritone. I have just started private composition lessons this semester and this is my first complete work. Influences include Schubert, Brahms, and Wagner. Although the third song, "Meeting at Night," has been performed, I currently do not have any recordings of the pieces. Hopefully within the next few weeks, I will get a chance to record them.
This work tells the story of a man who is uncertain with himself because he does not have much to offer to the love of his life. He does not have fame, fortune, or much of anything. However, he decides to over come this and pursue his love anyways and succeeds. The two fall passionately in love and live happily ever after.
The title of the work comes from the name of Carl and Ellie's scrapbook from the movie "Up." At the end of the last piece, "i carry your heart with me," there is a musical quotation from the movie soundtrack's main theme.
